They were slightly in the red last quarter. So they decided to hang all their lay-off costs and restructuring costs on it too. Normal practice. Don’t fret.
This...

It is interesting that both the UK and NA sales figures were actually up slightly, but most journos would apparently rather knock a company than point out the good bits.

And how many other manufacturers are going through hard times at the moment - but JLRs problems get the biggest headlines every time banghead

Me, I've got 300hp of XE Portfolio on order, and I'm reasonably happy that JLR will still be around even if I keep it for a decade, like I have my current motor yes

Hello? XE, XF, XJ = 3Series, 5 Series, 7 Series. Couldn't have shadowed them better.
With the current lineup/options/engines who would pick a jag over the Beemer in any of those classes?

Not me.
Me and I did. The 530i latest model was a dull boring drive, the XF 25t a far far better car in terms of driving feel and to me it feels like a big sports car.

I may come as a suprise but some of us don't follow the herd.
Fair enough and this is going to be a personal choice. among the current crop you like Jags and I like BM’s. I find my 520d an excellent, smooth, nice handling, economical drive, however, when the time comes to upgrade I wouldn’t consider a 530i, because it is a twin turbo’d 2 litre four cylinder. Maybe a 530d, which is meaty, perhaps why the police buy so many of them, or a 540i, because that IS a 3 litre six.

Time was when there was some logic to these things. BMW x20 == 2L, x25 == 2.5L ... x40 == 4L.
Why can't the marketing zeebs just call it like it is.

Maybe our prayers are answered with the announcement of a 400BHP i6 electric supercharged engine to go into the RRS.

Lets hope JLR don’t do what they did with the X-Type, XF etc and leave the intro to all the JLR models line up too long.....

Face lift Jaguar XE is now available on the UK configurator.

Exterior looks the same. Interior centre console seems to be borrowed from the Velar.

Trim levels have been changed. You have XE or R-Dynamic and then within each you have sub categories of S, SE, HSE.

Engine options look unchanged. I do hope there will be a six cylinder petrol offered at some point. Preferably when I'm looking at my next car due in 2020.

For me that’s the problem. When I change my BMW 540 probably early next year I’ll want something with at least comparable power/performance.

The i6 should be out by then. It’s quoted to be 360/400bhp, turbo and supercharged and mild hybrid capability.

If true and it’s as good a 6 as the 4s are 4s, it should be something.

Due out in the RRS soon and others later.

Well, accept the 7 series was introduced in about 77 so should be considered as shadowing the XJ biggrin
Correct, and did a better job of it.

Jaguar UK have come back to me this morning and said there are no plans at this stage for a six cylinder petrol XE but keep checking back for updates.

Did you really think they’d have told you if they were?

When I started seriously looking for a new XE, just after christmas, the salesdude told me they weren't planning to move from the rotary drive selector that I like, to a pistol grip one for the facelift.

Yes, I'm old enough to remember the original broadcasts of Thunderbirds laugh

I ordered a pre-facelift anyway, and sure enough, they've binned the rotary selector on the facelift.

Am I surprised - not really!

They told me the same before I ordered a new 2.2ltr Disco Sport, only to release the 2.0 Ingenium 3 months later!

Not surprising - the XE engine bay is extremely cramped with a v6 - the project 8 v8 had to have the bay enlarged. Fitting a N-S I6 (so longer than the v6 ~ v8 length) with a Hybrid system and FI would be a major challenge in the XE - more likely to see the hybrid system on the existing 4 pot motors leaving the I6 for XF/XJ/FPACE/F-Type.

I've owned an XE-S (340) for nearly 2 years now and am loving it - Solidly put together, and bar the odd multimedia funny hasn't put a wheel wrong. The interior is a much nicer place IMHO to be than the usual suspects, though it is a very high spec ex-management car. My step dad bought himself a new C300h Merc with Premium Plus pack as a pre-reg during the WLTP shenanigans in august last year - we sat it and my 2016 XE-S side by side over Christmas - and he regrets buying the Merc. The brushed aluminium plastic in the Merc just felt really cheap.

I'm planning on holding onto the XE until I go full electric in 12-18 months - either an I-Pace or a Polestar-2 currently top of my list.

The thing is. Sales people work for a franchised dealer. They don’t work for Jaguar. So unless they happen to have something on their order system or some marketing material. They are none the wiser than you or I. And often less so if they aren’t actually interested in cars outside of work.

Big companies always work that way. Try asking the guys in the Apple store about next Autumns new updates, they have no more clue than anyone else.

XE 3.0 V6 block is the same as the 5.0 V8 without the back two cylinders machined. So technically a V8 will fit a standard XE bay.

But there’s no market for a V8

There was barely a market for the V6 S

It’s not as simple as stick a V8 in and go up against the RS 4/M3/C63

You need to go the whole hog performance and looks wise and that costs a lot of money and ultimately requires a business case.
