2009 XFR depreciation

hello,
i am considering the purchase of one of these early next year, and am wondering what depreciation will actually be like. Ive mostly owned cars that dont really depreciate, so this will be a first.
I would be looking at one at the bottom end of the market from a main dealer say £25k with 40k on clock and would keep it for 2 years.
Would £3k per year depreciation be realistic?

Most peeps miss-read your post. A 2 year old XFR as you say will lose about £3k for each subsequent year. From retail price to retail price, but trade in value knock off another £3k! i am considering the purchase of one of these early next year, and am wondering what depreciation will actually be like. New XF due in 2015-16, not going to do you any favours. Jags lose sheds loads of money. Real shame.
It's not just Jäger that lose money. All large premium brands do, just look at the BMWs Audis etc, in some cases the equivalent Jags lose the same and in some cases less than the German brands. I've been looking at the 6 series BMW and the XK around 2005/5 and the jags go for a lot more money.

German stuff looks better to magazine journalists comparing list prices and Parkers or Glass' price guides for depreciation. Add in the staggering value of options for things most people would think should come as standard (and crucially do in a Jaguar) and the optioned-up German car price versus its value a few years later will make your eyes bleed.I'm sure everyone has seen that screenshot someone had in the General Gassing forum with a £47k Audi A7 specced to over £100k once the options were added on.
People talk about Jaguar depreciation as if it's particularly bad. For the class of car and pruce point they're sold at - it isn't. 15 years ago they depreciated badly. Since the XF, not so much.
One used to be able to pick up a very young S-Type for buttons. I know - I did it and that's why I did it. Reshell it as the XF though and they hold their values much better. Nobody will be picking up an 18,000 mile 3 year old XF for £10,000 from a main dealer!
Let me chip in here.
After 13 years driving Jaguars..an S-Type 4.0 V8 SE for 3 years and then an S-Type 4.2 V8 SE for over 10 years..two months ago, for various reasons, I unexpectedly traded in the S-Type for an XF 5.0 V8 Portfolio. It is a 2009 car, done 31,500 miles, and I got it from a JMD as a Jaguar approved car for £19,600 with a year's Jaguar warranty, one year's road tax, just been serviced and a year's MoT. I was happy with the deal, still am.
I've researched the price of this car from new and after making some assumptions for all the extras I think it would have been around £57,000. So, it's reduced by around £37,000 over 5 years, which I see as an advantage to me.
The OP is interested in getting a 2009 XFR, 40,000 miles for £25,000 and is considering depreciation. This suggest he considers the car to be under his ownership for a limited period, maybe three years or so? Well I reckon that a by then an 8 year old 70,000 miles XFR may optimistically be worth around £10,000, assuming that there's a market for large V8s still. I do think this is a tad optimistic. On this basis, depreciation will be around £5000 a year.
As for me and my XF 5.0 V8, I will do maybe 8000 miles year. I consider this car to be a keeper for maybe close to another 10 years as per my S-Type, so by then it will have done, say 110,000 miles, will be getting on to 15 years old. I don't expect it to have much value, say £1000 if I'm lucky. So, I'm going to lose something getting on for £2000 a year, which is very acceptable compared to what the car has suffered so far.
Logic is the longer you keep a car the more acceptable the depreciation.
Of course, there's then running costs....but that's another topic all together.
I expect my logic etc could be challenged!
