Hi

We leased a Jaguar last year on a 5k mile pa deal. We are having issues with the DPF in that it has clogged up twice now. 1st time they replaced it under warranty as the car gave no warning (just went straight to red - limp mode - take to dealer).

It has happened again, dealer informs us not covered by warranty, est 2.5k fix.

Can they make us pay, the car gave no warning, we weren't notified at the time of purchase the car has to be driven in a certain manner.

If they try to make us pay my intention is to cancel the DD lease payment, and leave the car at Jaguar with both sets of keys. Will this course of action end well for me?

We buy/lease a new car to avoid these issues and have comfort a warranty is in place, this is just a joke.....

Thoughts?

5k a year in a diesel? Why?

You’re just asking for trouble tbh. You’re contracted for the lease payments, the finance company will come after you.

It’s not up to the dealer to find out how you drive, they are just there to sell cars.
Why - cheap lease deal (isn't that why most people lease), if there car isn't suitable to only do 5k (and they don't bother asking) they shouldn't sell under a 5kpa lease deal. I have already told them 'Ill see them in court' as the car clearly isn't fit for purpose (in my mind they are screwed as they haven't defined that this car will only be suitable for xyz driving styles).

Again as I said if there was no warning light then it falls back to the manufacturer but if there was an amber warning light then it fell back to the OP, no one knows because the way the way the OP framed his original post it seems they were two different circumstances.

In your case with no warning light then the manufacturer has to take the wrap which they have but it seems like you bought the wrong drivetrain & you should think about your usage when you change.
Both times there was no amber light. Straight to red.

Still waiting on jag customer services but have a case open.

Will update when I hear more.

I acknowledge a diesel isn’t the most appropriate engine, but expect the car to give a warning which I can then react to.

Cheers all.

Car has done 2500 miles and now 6 months old.

1st dpf changed 3 months ago at about 1200 miles. No charge made for dpf, injectors or courtesy car.

Jag engineer who came out initially said rules were changing such that Jag won’t cover dpf cause by driving style but said should give warning.

We raised with jag garage if they had fixed the lack of warning but seemed not interested.

It’s quite simple in my mind that the car is faulty regardless of driving style. I won’t pay for it to be fixed, nor will I in future if there is no warning light.

I haven’t looked at the lease paperwork but that be the next step when back in the country.

All in all a disappointing jlr experience.

UPDATE.....

Jag central have authorised dealer to proceed with DPF replacement under a goodwill payment.

I challenged them on the issue going forward, which they stated if due to driving style will be for me to pay.

They state the lack of amber light is part of the design, so a warning will not always be given.

I asked what driving style is suitable and they recommend a weekly motorway trip of 30 minutes.

My lease (with Lex) is for 5000 miles, so have a query with them as to if the mileage can be increased to accommodate this, it will be interesting to see if they agree to this, if so it acknowledges the issue.

All in all a very poor experience, whilst Jag are agreeing to cover this time, they are closing the door to future issues.

If I could turn back time, I would not buy a Jag again (or any Diesel)....

PS Anyone know how much it is to remove a DPF.

So update.......

Car is back in with Jaguar, DPF filter blocked, went amber then red in less than 1 minute.

Waiting to hear back from Jaguar if they are going to fix under warranty or ask me to pay.

I see my options as:-

1. Pay £2500
2. Take car back with blocked DPF and find independent cleaning company
3. Remove DPF and remap
4. Return car to Lex (presumably they will seek to recoup half the outstanding payments?)

I am favouring 3 or 4 depending on my mood, we have another 2 1/2 years of the lease to go......

I originally complained to Jaguar (their excuse is the car designed like that, complained to Lex (their excuse was Jaguar said car was designed like that), now with FOS awaiting their judgement (their excuse likely to be Jaguar say car designed like that).

All in all a joke to buy a new car and have so many issues...... maybe explains why the lease was cheapish!!
