Hi,
Just thought I would find out your views on the following:

I have been looking for a JAg XKR for about 6 weeks but could not be doing with all that shiney wood inside.
So I thought I had found the perfect car and the guy accepted my offer of £23,500, which I thought was a little high but ok considering the car had all the optional extra's (about £8 to £9ks worth when new). Also the car has a darker wood inside together with black carpet which makes much better sense and genereally looked much better.

The car can be viewed at www.chrisdeith.f2s.com.

THE ONLY THING IS I HAVE FOUND OUT VIA HPI CHECK THAT IT WAS CAT D RATED, BUT NOW BEEN FULLY REPAIRED AND INSPECTED AND APPRVD OK A YEAR AGO.

Would you buy it? or should I walk? seems a lot of money but it did fit my taste which most don't.

I would be keen to know your thoughts.
Regards,
Nick.

Thank you all,
It has been good to read your comments.

And thank you for the website of the repairier, I shall follow this up.

It would seem that the car was fully inspected by Autolign in Feb last year and past the Autolign test. This is the company that HPI themselfs recommend.

I have requested that we obtaine a further RAC inspection and the seller should then put right any miss givings from this and have a full Service before I buy.

I have to say that Chris the seller does appear to be very reasonable, but I would agree this car is still being sold at a premium price.

The reason why I still consider this car is that it has all the optional extra's fitted to the car which new would have been over £8000 worth, which I guess would still have a small extra value to the car. Also the inside of the car is to my liking i.e. dark wood with black carpet and sat nav.

I dont feel that a convertable should be more as at the end of the day we are in England not the US, and well its only half the car.

Thanks again for your help I will keep you posted.
Regards,
Nick.

So here I go.. is it the XKR I've always dreamed off or not.

I suppose without trying to sound as though I don't care about the money or that I have buckets loads of it. I have been thinking that this car fits my tasts (i.e. black and cream leather trim with sat nav and all the extra's)it might be worth taking the risk.

At the end of the day as I see it if when I come to sell it in 4 to 5 years time (assuming it lasts that long) I would only lose about £1500 on the value, and if it is really the car for me then I might just go for it.

In 4 to 5 years time it will be older and have proved (hopefully) its time on the road and the buying market place will be very diffrent. So I dont think I should lose too much on the car.

As a side issue I was at one stage thinking of buying a TVR Cerbera, which I was put off by the £3000 a year breakdown bills, over and above the running cost's. I think that in my position I can take on the XKR, but knowing I can not put a warrity on it, I need to know that it is sound and in good working order, as I dont want to get back to £3000 a year in breakdown cost's.

I have requested that Chris (the Seller) has a RAC inspection and puts right any miss givings and has a full jag 10,000 miles service on the car before I buy it. The car is booked in the next wends.

I will keep you posted, and thank you all for your time and support.

Thank you.
Nick.

Hi Guys,

Yes, I did mention black, sorry I ment the carpet's and some of the dash etc. i.e. not so bright with the wood finish, which I like personal choice of course.

Chris (the seller) is arranging the service with Gatwich Jag. I suppose I could telephone them and ask them to do the inspection for me at my cost, but not so sure Chris would be happy with this (but I also gues I do have the uper hand here).

I also intend on looking over the car again of course, this time without mt rose tinted shades ;-)

My thought is that when I come to sell it 4 years later the value may only be £10k ish, and if I lose 15 to 20%, its not the end of the world if the car feels right for me. I have been looking for one with this interior colour code and sat nav for 6 weeks, so i am quite keen on the car.

Just hope it will turn out ok. I also get the feeling that it is being sold for a gen' reason.

Thanks for the help guys.
Nick.
