Some advice please. I have an SVR and I need to change the rears, they are 295’s. The car is currently shod with Pirelli P Zeros which were manufacturer fitted. I was going to change these to MP4S’s as they are recommended from all the forum discussions I have read. My question is, as they are a summer tyre how do they perform in winter and is there an all season tyre that any SVR users would recommend or will the MP4S’s be ok. Appreciate your help.

I'm in the SE and use MPS4S all year round on the RWD XFR. Have a set of snow socks and only had to use them once in 5 years.
Thank you. That’s helpful.

Thank you, this was what I was afraid of tbh. Take your point about the SC 7’s though. I haven’t used it in the winter and whilst the snow is visible it’s the ice that can catch you out. Most of my journeys are on major roads so I’m hoping that this will be less of an issue, however it’s a big car with fat tyres on the rear in particular. It does have a snow mode though wink

I have just put contact 7's on mine and they are superb.
Another vote for SC 7’s. Having checked the reviews there seems little in it. Except the price of course wink

Instead of replacing my summer tyres now I am considering buying a set of winters and then swopping them over to summer tyres in the spring. Has anyone done this on the SVR and which tyres did they go for. Thanks.

Forums adore the Michelin PS4S but they're an old tyre now and appear to bettered by the (usefully cheaper) Continental ContiSportContact 7.

I've got them on the rear of my XKR and they're fantastic.

Any performance tyre will be atrocious, absolutely atrocious, in snow and ice as these assymetric patterns with big grooves around the circumference have zero "bite" in snow compared to older patterns with V shaped grooves or more lateral blocks.

You can't get all seasons in big sizes so you're looking at pure winters for your car, which will be very compromised in all but truly wintry conditions. You're either driving cautiously in the cold and staying at home in the snow, or investing in a second set of wheels and tyres I'm afraid.

Having had a look one of the few all season tyres that fit is the Pirelli Zero All Season but that will be a compromise all round I guess.

I agree. It’s been an interesting exercise highlighted by the time of year. I had two reasons, a) I wasn’t sure about the PZero’s and b) with so much power through large rubber on the rear it’s a risk at this time of the year. I have plenty of tread on the fronts, they are a 2022 tyre as the dealer put new ones on at purchase in March. The rears are 2020 however and when I get them checked will either replace them now or wait until Spring dependent on condition. I won’t run a car like this on poor rubber. I also need to consider whether running the rear axle on SC7’s for instance and PZero’s on the front makes sense if I stay with Summers.

I guess the simplest solution is to stay with PZero’s if the rears need changing. The fronts will have plenty left in them. They have done around 8k and I am light on tyres I’m no boy racer. Perhaps I am over complicating things.

Life would be simpler (and cheaper) if it was! No fun though. You are right, mixing brands even if they were on the same axle would do my head in every time I looked wink
