Back in 1999 when the astounding F-Type was on the launching ramps, I saw a Top Gear feature on it and it drove down a runway sounding, as JC put it, like Prodigy playing in the exhaust pipe.

I can't find it on YouTube - does anyone know of a clip please?

I think you mean the XK180 not the F-Type
Thanks - I had a deposit on one and IIRC the two terms were interchangeable. But as always with Jaguar, they make stunning concept cars that the world clamours to buy - then scrap it turn out a diesel saloon or something that looks like Vauxhall frown

So after 40 years we're still waiting for an E-Type successor...

Unfortunately the clip is unwatchable as some total wr has replaced the proper noise with gangsta rap type SHIT...

Hmm. Which bit of 'sleek lightweight open-top sports car' are they not grasping do you feel? Everything turns into a bruising GT.

Interesting comment that "Had a deposit on one". How did that happen then? The 180 was NEVER destined for sale.
We're getting confused. I started the thread with 'F-Type' but somebody altered it to 'XK180'. As I understand it the XK180 was the concept from which the F-Type was developed. Jaguar was taking £200 deposits for the F-Type, as it was known (see thread title), in 1999. However later in the year I got a letter from the dealer with an apology and my £200 back.

I think you'll agree it's pretty damn beautiful:
