I think i'm slowly coming to the realisation that I don't really need this car.

I've been thinking about it a lot over the last week and can't make my mind up on whether to just cancel the order. I don't rely on a car as daily transport and it just feels like a bit of an indulgence.

To my knowledge the car is already built and being held at a dealers so not sure what the situation will be if i do cancel. If anyone wants it, it may be easier for me to make a decision. It's a 5dr DSG BE in dynamic grey. No deposit, 24 x £269 5k per year.
You cant wait this long and not have it, you ordered just about the same time as me, cant belive youve still not had it..

I'm coming to the realisation after nearly 2 months I didn't need this car haha, its still not done 400 miles yet, sits on the drive most days doing very little.

I change my mind when I go for a quick drive though wink

Yeah, I think we were about a day or two apart. I'm pretty sure mine has actually been ready for a while but I told them to keep it until December as my Golf is actually meant to run until March.

I like to have a car but at the moment the Golf is only costing me £134pm so this is double and I NEVER take the Golf out for a drive just for the sake of it and rarely use the performance so can't see me doing it in the Cupra. Back when i took the golf I talked myself into it by saying "You won't get cars like this as cheap as this EVER again, so now or never". Doing it twice just seems a bit much.

God, I think i'm maybe growing up and becoming....... sensible.
Get where your coming from, to be honest if i'd not needed to get some money out my old Leon I wouldn't have changed it, this deal being what it was made the man maths stack up, the wife needs the car to take the kids to pre school 3 times a week and pop to the shops, 99% of the time we take my car anywhere we go all together, Cupra seems a bit of a waste really... The wife doesn't seem too impressed, she prefers the MK2 we had, not once has she said "its nice" or commented in any positive way....... she will regret that in 22 months time when she has a Y reg Focus LX on the drive biggrin

Looks good that does Sam

Alor is one that is really growing on me wink

On the fuel front i've been running mine on Super, must be feeling flush of late haha i've always noticed a difference with high powered turbo lumps, my old MK 1 Cupra R ran much better on super than the regular

Yep I don't think I'm going to get on with the sat nav. It appears on first inspection that you can't directly enter a postcode?

Google pulls so much data that I don't think other nav systems stand a chance to be honest. Only issue for me is the voice commands are slightly behind the beat but as long as I can see what's going on that doesn't bother me.

Got 31mpg on my first commuting run this morning taking it fairly steady with the odd blast which seems OK to me. Drops unbelievably quickly when you bury the right foot though!
When you go into Nav, press on 'City' and a new screen opens with POSTCODE bottom left
I had a mare trying to find it first time mad

Yeah, this week's gonna drag!

How come you've delayed yours? I'll get a cheeky pic of it while I'm there if you want!
Already seen it and it's stored away offsite but cheers for the offer. Golf needs to go back first. Think there's a couple of us who's delaying delivery too. Can't wait for heated seats!

Question for those who have theirs - on a cold start, how long until you actually feel the heated seats kick in? Is it a matter of seconds or minutes?
The heated seats are one of the things we like the best on our Cupra, because the buckets are nice and figure hugging it makes the seat feel really warm and comfortable. They heat up pretty quickly, not in a matter of seconds but not minutes either.
I must say the heated seats do heat up quick.

One thing I prefer in the Audi though is that the heated seats stay on all the time (not literally!), so when I come to go to work in the morning I dont have to turn them on again, mine stay on level 2 from September to May pretty much, one thing I would always spec in a car now i've had them in the last few

Is everyone putting super unleaded in theirs? I've stuck with V-power so far but was wondering if there's a noticeable difference with standard 95 RON.

I'm up to 1,600 miles now and averaging 32 mpg which isn't bad - quite a few congested mortorway miles in there though.
I've only put super in, saying that it's only on the second tank, averages about 28 at the moment, mostly short town driving.

Tried the economy mode the weekend, it puts DSG in neutral when coasting, very strange sensation

So is anyone "running in" the engine, or just thrashing it from day 1 (given the opportunity!)?
The latter, I'm of the opinion that oil technology is much better today than it was 40 years ago, components are better, I have always had company cars that have never been run in, most go onto >100k and I have never had any issues which is remotely connected to not running in.

I also visited the JLR site in Halewood a few years ago and saw how they were driven off the production line and round the storage yard, no running in going on frown

CVL are pretty rubbish. When I ordered their sales team were replying to emails within minutes and they gave the impression of being extremely slick. The admin team is the complete opposite. Emailed them 3 days ago along the lines of "see that cupra I told you to hold onto until December? Well it's December very soon and i've not heard anything, Any chance you can arrange to have it delivered/collected 9 December?Might be an idea to get me to sign something even??"

Nothing.
I found them quite bad at the sales side too, they were very slow at replying when I requested more info on the Cupra deal initially, prior to this I had requested probably 3 "more information" over the previous 2 months and had nothing back, I found them much better on the phone, I had to chase the Cupra quote at least twice with Owen on that first day.

Just because there arent enough pictures in this thread... This looks epic! How are you getting on with it Rob?
I’ve just ticked over the 600 miles mile mark today and it’s safe to say that I love it! I was very used to how fast my Megane 225 went to the point that it didn’t feel fast anymore – passengers didn’t agree! This feels like a rocket ship in comparison, which it should do with nearly 40% more power! I love the way it pulls in 3rd and 4th gear and can’t get enough of how good the VAQ diff works the front end as you counter-intuitively apply more power to tighten your line round a corner. You don’t even need to be going license losing speeds to appreciate how good the car is. The steering is quicker than the Megane (especially in Cupra mode) and takes a little less input than you think on turn in – the tactile feedback thought the steering wheel is a little numb but that’s fairly par for the course on the newer MQB cars (and most modern cars to be honest!)
The exhaust isn’t as loud from the inside as I thought it would be, but the crack you get between gear change at around 4-5k is more than loud enough. Sometimes you’re rewarded to pops when you rev match gear-changes going down the box, but I suspect that this will increase as the exhaust beds on more (It does pop and burble on overrun but only below 3.5-4k). I’m very used to my Megane popping and banging everywhere as I’ve had the rear silencer removed, but it’s a similar sound. As for the oft maligned fake engine noise piped in when on Cupra mode, I don’t find it nearly as annoying as most do. To me, it sounds like induction noise from a decent after-market intake so my inner boy-racer quite likes it. The bucket seats are supportive without being closeting and the fit and finish seems very good so far. Having heated seats is bonus on these cold days too and only takes 30s or so before you start to feel the effects. The only negative I have so far is the violent wheel hop if you try to apply too much throttle in 1st to 3rd gear – it sounds like the lower gearbox mount has shattered! The Conti 5P’s aren’t the best in the wet so you just have to learn to modulate the throttle to the conditions – something you have to do to any car really. I do wish the default was Pilot Super Sports as for me, they are the best tyre I’ve ever used on the road in either dry or wet conditions.
To summarise – it’s everything you expect it to be and more!
Good right up that smile

I'd agree with the wheel hop, picked the father in law up from the local garage yesterday, roads were damp and a 66 plate S3 Saloon came behind me at the first Island (never happens in the dry and i'm on my own), the above mentioned inner boy racer came over me and its the first proper time I've thought that its way too much power for a front drive car when trying to keep him at bay up to 50mph between several slow islands, I thought the dash was going to fall off at one point, its a proper violent bang.

Father in law didn't seem as impressed as me with the turn of speed of the Cupra

Still not hit 500 miles yet, i#m going to be well in for my 5k

I tried an SD card out my Audi and it doesn't recognise any of the tracks or play them, they are all MP3's, could the Audi MMi have somehow changed the format??

I'm hoping come renewal (January) that the reminder is just as kind, comparison sites are putting the full year about £100 more, last year paid £267 with protected no claims, this was cheaper than the comparison sites could offer.

Just did one out of interest and cheapest was £344 with Sainsburys

test drove a 290 dsg st black today, really impressed with the car makes my 184 diesel feel sluggish compared,
you wouldn't know the power in comfort mode at 1/2 throttle really easy car to drive, whack in in cupra throttle then it just wants to go...

i really not sure about dsg box with a traditional handbrake.. i'm i right in thinking you have to put it in neutral for the start stop to engage? i couldn't see my self doing that if so.. and also compare to a golf r when in comfort does the golf r coast/trail when not on the throttle to save fuel?

i really think the 2017 (which has the auto handbrake) model will refine this car to make it a excellent buy or lease.
Start stop works in D, it goes off when brake is pressed, when pressure is lifted it restarts

Does anyone know if the heated wingmirrors come on with the heated rear screen?

If they are working, they dont work very well!
You need the wing mirror knob in the heated position, they come on automatically below a set degrees, cant think what it is, something like 50% power 10 degrees to 15 100% power 10 degrees and below.

Hi all - Couple of little niggles - The alarm has gone off twice randomly now because the boot seems to be unlatching. Assume no one else has had this? Also - I've got the lights above the rear seats set to the middle option which I think should be on when doors open but nothing is happening unless I switch the light to one of the manual options. Am i missing something in a setting or are these faulty?
My rear roof lights needed to be switched to auto, they were not working with the doors when I collected, try flicking the switch over.

Leon oc is a good place to go.

Seatcupra net is where you get the Mk2 brigade with a mapped diesel fr that can beat anything even cupra 290's without trying.

Civic type r's are always beaten by 140 fr's with a map too

Does this give us the green light to put a remap on the car as long as we return it to stock before giving it back?
A remap puts a marker on the ECU apparently, there was a thread about it on another forum, I'd imagine only an issue if it went in for warranty work during the time you had it

Boring post alert....

Just looking out the window at the car an noticed sporadic placement of the black covers for the wheel nuts, I doubt that they have been nicked as they would have all gone but wandered if anyone else had noticed the same:

Front Driver: 5 black caps
Front Passenger: 4 Black caps
Rear Driver: 4 Black caps
Rear Passenger: 2 black caps

Just wandered if anyone else had them missing as assumed they would come from the factory with them fitted
