The Golf R lease thread
Discussion
Just spoke to someone at my dealer who says they are only now about to put the order in with VW!
Supposedly they were waiting for agreement from VW that they could place the orders following some internal meeting at VW head office where they agreed to allocate a further 300 cars to the deal.

It's only about 2.5hrs on a train. You could do a blinding route back through the peak district...
My car is from VW Halifax also and I live near Oxford - I'm definitely driving it back. One of my best drives ever was back through the Peak District when I had my TVR Chimaera with my brother chasing me in his Marcos 3 Litre V6 we just picked up from Oldham. skahigh said:
My car is now showing up in the order tracker, yay!
But, it doesn't list car net under the spec, does that mean they've not out it on the order or the tracker just doesn't show it?
I've ordered app connect also and mine doesn't show. However, I wouldn't worry as they can sort it at the dealers if necessary as all cars just need it to be "enabled" rather than have anything specific installed for it.But, it doesn't list car net under the spec, does that mean they've not out it on the order or the tracker just doesn't show it?

When you say enabled, is that through VCDS, or a bit more complex?skahigh said:

Ditto.... I procrastinated for a day, then pulled my finger out of my backside and got some quotes, all through the same dealer.... Kept getting the price down based on the deals that I saw others were getting. Then, before the trigger was pulled, so was the deal! This was on the Thursday lunch time. She tells me she'll be following up on Monday, (got my finance allroved), and two days ago she confirms they can fulfil the order....Supposedly they were waiting for agreement from VW that they could place the orders following some internal meeting at VW head office where they agreed to allocate a further 300 cars to the deal.
So, I'm going to be the owner of an estate car!!!

I've read that it can be installed at the dealer even if not originally specced. Also my wife has just got a mk7 gti and hers shows car net as an option but says it needs to be activated if you click on it. She didn't go for car net as an option since it has sat nav already but it certainly looks like it could be added of she wanted it.
CarNet is a separate thing, it's like a wireless connectivity between the car and somewhere in the ether that sends/received information about your car and information relevant to you for which you need to set up an online account. Sorry that's a bit wishy-washy, but there a guide on YouTube guide on it somewhere and also something on the VW website.
App-Connect is the other bit, which in effect mirrors the screen of your phone (e.g. Apple CarPlay) so that you can see one of 9 or 10 selected apps on the screen much like you would see on your smartphone. For Apple this would be Messages, Apple Maps (for Sat Nav), Music, Spotify, etc. You can also use voice control (which otherwise is an expensive option). You need a physical connection between the phone and the car, so I think you get supplied the cables necessary, but I have bought another Apple lightning cable just in case.
So, for those of us speccing the CarNet App-Connect option for £125, you get both of the above.

I've read that the dealer provides an activation code which goes into the head unit to enable the feature. No first hand experience of that so take it with a pinch of salt. As a later comment said, I would expect a cable to be supplied too. I have heard it's at least twice the price of the build option to get it from a dealer. I'm sure there's some haggle room there though if you play a couple of dealers off each other. Also my wife has just got a mk7 gti and hers shows car net as an option but says it needs to be activated if you click on it. Oh...I hadn't appreciated the different aspects of what it could do.App-Connect is the other bit, which in effect mirrors the screen of your phone (e.g. Apple CarPlay) so that you can see one of 9 or 10 selected apps on the screen much like you would see on your smartphone. This seems to be a useful page which explains what Car Net/App Connect can do http://volkswagen-carnet.com/uk/en/start/car-model...
To go back to the original point though, if the VW dealer did forget to spec it at factory it seems almost certain that this could be easily rectified prior to, or on, delivery.
Hopefully, however, all of the cars have been specced as ordered. Certainly I hope mine has to save any hassle.
