Just an update.

The car has now only 23,000 miles on the clock. It is due for its service now.

The BMW dealership where I bought the car from paid for a new set of tyres, this time the correct size. I actually made a sneaky profit on the tyres wink

Since owning the car I have averaged 18.4mpg. This is mostly town driving, approx 75% of it so far. Come summer there will be more motorway driving. I only do approx 5k pa.

So far there have been no issues with the car. No faults or problems.

I did notice however when its extremely cold and frosty the drivers door does not shut properly. I need to de-ice the door with warm water (I am sure a de-icer would do the same things too). I believe the drivers window snags on something, all frost/ice related.

I am quite pleased with the mpg on the motorway. I get 25-27mpg. That's quite good for a 4.2l V8.

the B&O sound system is very good, however I am sure Bose is better.

The boot is a good size but shaped a bit funny as its quite shallow. It is a coupe after all. If you put a push chair in it will have to go across the boot which literally cuts the space up diagonally. It is not an issue as there is still plenty of space to eat up all the other stuff a father needs.

The steering is prob one of the few things I dislike. I find it quite vague. I had a Honda S2000 before the S5 so it is quite a change. Even in dynamic mode the steering does not feel right, its weighted but lacks feel.

The power is great on the motorway however the car never feels hugely fast, its defo a cruiser. It is greatly comfortable, lovely to be in, and it accommodations 2 adults and a toddler without much of an issue. The seats are great, same seats as you get in the RS6, RS5 and prob the RS4. Big and comfy. Passengers always say how fast it is, maybe I am just use to the raw feel of the S2000 and the adrenalin rush I use to get from it. I do feel the S5 could do with a bit more power. Maybe another 100bhp.. hmmm RS5?!

I was looking at changing the grill to the RS5 front, and also upgrading the exhaust system too. However I am moving shortly so I could not justify the price. If I was the car to sound better I think the best way to do that would be to buy a RS5.

The looks have grown on me. I have to say this car is a slow burn.... it grows on you.

It is coming onto nearly a year of ownership. The car has only cost me in fuel, road tax and now a service with I have had a quote at £185 plus I will supply the oil, this is from a specialist Audi garage in Woodford Green.

Would I buy the car if I had a second chance... definitely. I like the external look and feel of the M3 E92 however the interior is dull and the running costs are too high. Furthermore the 4 wheel drive system in the S5 is great to have especially with kids in the back. If I am in a position to be able to afford one in 4 years time I think I would upgrade my S5 for a RS5. It makes sense to me... well here's 4 years and counting.

Very similar stats on the mpg front to myself and can relate to alot of the things you say above, steering, speed.

Think the acceleration is deceiving.

Ill love the wafting factor on the motorway along with the v8 rumble when you turn it up a bit.

Originally bought this for my wife but I've now snaffled it and put circa 10k on it since.

Not had the door sticking with ice but had the pass. Door handle fail. Sounds like youve done well to avoid any niggles I've had a couple, glad the AUC was on hand which I've not long extended.

Believe we're in for a bit of snow up here soon, looking forward to it!

Yes, it's much better than the Bose stereo option on the B7 chassis cars it replaced.

DR G you'll know the answer to this one, how's the residuals holding up on the S5 ?

I've had 2 trade in offers recently for mine against similar value used cars (£28k) 1 was just under £20k and the other just under £17k....not much of a difference !

In April 2012 I bought a 2009 09 S5 fully loaded with extra including rear heated seats, 19k on the clock for £24,500 and I had a refund of £900 so it costs me £23.6k.

I do not look at S5 values wink I do not care how much it is worth right now as I am not planning on selling it.

You might be right, the B&O might be better than the Bose. Maybe I think to fondly of my Bose in my old TT 225 coupe. I loved that sound, it was defo better than the sounds from my friends HK system on his new E46 M3. This is going back quite a few years now. I feel the B&O lacks solid bass, having said that my friend did adjust it down... hmm I need to investigate!

The ice thing was a bit annoying. I hope its a one off. I remember reading a similar thing on a 6-series coupe a few years back.

The ice thing has happened to me several mornings as well recently, on my S5 cab.

Warm water was the best solution, no amount of de-icer would free them. Annoyingly or luckily (I'm not sure which!), the doors open, but won't close properly leaving the glass sticking out - Until they are 'freed'.

I've got a TT courtesy car at the moment and they wouldn't open this morning either - it's just a 'feature' of this type of frameless windows!

I agree... its defo a frameless thing. However I never had it on my TT.

A bit annoying, esp if you dont have access to hot water!

Imagine parking it a dodgy area and not being able to close the door, no water to hand... only option would be taking a leak all over the door. ;(

Completely missed this, sorry! Did you still want me to look?

Likely new regulators needed. There are revised parts.

Nuts... costs seem to be £400+.

Damn. I will see how it does. I think you are right though. The passenger window was not closing properly the other day. It would get to the top and then drop down as if something was in its way.

Had this on mine. Starts as you describe & eventually gives up (in my case in the down position) worse thing is both will need replacing as the part is an update.

Fortunately mine were covered under warranty. Hope you get sorted.

The squeaking has stopped completely. The passenger window is closing properly too. I doubt it will last.

Not looking forward to when it messes up.

Audi said they will only offer goodwill if my car has a full Audi service history and if the garage check the car to confirm there is a fault. The goodwill is apparently dependent upon the garage and not Audi CS.

Just noticed all the posts about the S5 doors sticking in the cold weather.

The problem seems to be the glass sticking to the rubber seals (bottom and top of the door). This means the windows can't drop automatically when the door is shut so it just bounces.

The solution I found (recommended by BMW coupe owners with frameless doors) was Gummi Pflege (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Einszett-Gummi-Pflege-Rubber-Stick/dp/B007TNOQDI).

Just run this around your seals before cold weather and it should stop the doors/windows sticking.

Loved my S5, was a great GT car and it covered a very enjoyable 50k miles for me with no problems smile
