Well they've had to take the whole dash out and now replace the heater matrix or something.... Still not got the car.... The dealership have been awful, my courtesy car is a 2013 Tsi blue motion covered in dents and scratches.... Had a moan at vw corporate who are going to offer some kind of goodwill.... Seriously lost faith in the VW brand having come from Mercedes and bmw who in my past experiences always go above and beyond. I'll keep you posted on any outcomes.

P.s. They offered another car now but it's a bit late and just more inconvenience,

Iv heard of water cooled PC's before but never ecu's.

I'd go for either a software failure, or brake sensors (abs) perhaps as those faults all sound a bit brake sensor fault therefore turn everything off that's related to assisting the brakes(breaks ).

Car is back! Ecu/abs unit & heater matrix replaced..... Now the clutch release bearing is making a noise.... Hopefully that's going to go away! It was like getting the car from new again, as I'd only had it 3 days prior.

Quick update, the ACC has stopped working, and the clutch release bearing is now making a noise.

VW corporate have said they are going to inspect the vehicle top to bottom and consider offering me a brand new car instead of a few hundred £££, I'll keep you posted.

If they're offering another car, all being the same, take it. Though it could simply be first year production blues like most new models have.

You should get a new car and either some money-off/refunded or some free options as compensation.

Now go and stick a REVO remap on it and see if the engine is any good before you give it back..

I would be asking for a new car. Having owned a number of VW's and soon an R, the whole dealership experience thing worries me, especially if you have an issue.. Really is a lottery from a service perspective...

Yes, they really do need to get a grip of that. And VW UK customer service who promise everything but deliver nothing.

We have a Golf in the family, but looking for another new car recently I considered VW for about 30 seconds - once bitten, twice shy.

Sounds like you've been unlucky and got a car that was started on a Friday afternoon and finished the following Monday morning! In the circumstances I'd be demanding a brand new replacement as based on the content of this thread you appear to have very solid grounds for rejecting the vehicle.

It's been a helluver first year for that Golf though.

Needing to take the dash out is never good news; it's big and heavy, steering wheel has to come off, so check for rattles, cosmetic damage and that wheel back on straight. I'd want a new car.
