I've never had a new car, but I think I will be making an enquiry about one of these.

I had an Abarth 500ss that was a riot, but the lack of practicality with regard to space inside and the hard ride made everyday duties a bit tiresome.

The other half has a very basic UP! Which I find quite charcterful, very efficient and decent to drive. Also for its physical size, the interior is very spacious.

I'd hope the GTI to be more of the same with a bit more go and more creature comforts.

I have 14k burning a whole in my pocket whilst I wait for a decent polo GTI to come on VW approved used. Might check out an Up! if I can get a brand new car with 3 years warranty for the same price. What do we think is earliest I can take delivery of one?

I suspect we're going to see them start appearing here end of April/beginning of May.

Good discounts have been available since day one. I got 9.5% off my car with an invoice price of £14520 to £13144. Includes the £500 PCP contribution, but that will be paid off when I take delivery.

I was really tempted by one of these, but put off by spec at the mo.

Brakes - drum rears. Never had a car with those. Not sure I agree on principle even if it’s enough.

Electronic stability - only on or off? Seems to be what I’ve read

Colours - not much choice in or out. Would love a Lhasa green render. Think it might look good if given a modern twist.

Seats - not much support maybe.

Engine sound synthesisers...

Still going to book a test drive as price with PCP very appealing. Currently have a R50 Cooper daily and worried this might be too City fun rather than B Road fun.

EVO mag review suggests ripe for a Clubsport version

Yes the DTD price includes a £500 contribution if you take out PCP.
I am surprised there are discounts when it has only just come out.

I’d just go and drive one and make your mind up from that, rather than what you see on paper. It’s a really fun car, it doesn’t need discs at the rear, it doesn’t need anymore power and the seats are fine. They could have thrown all these things at it and we’d be complaining about another VW that is too expensive.

Worth checking at Volkswizards review of the up! GTI on YT.

Believe me, they’re not struggling to sell them. The wait time is ridiculous.

It is a cracking price. 18 years ago a Saxo VTR, about the same size, with very similar BHP was around £10k. An extra £3750 of inflation and a premium instead of value brand makes it a bargain. It's a recipe for success IMO. It should have rear discs mind.

I don’t know why VW chose not to fit rear discs, but I found the braking power more than adequate, so it’s not an issue for me.

Not sure how this is a bargain?

still £14k for the tiniest, entry model vw with good trim and a basic engine.

We've got a year to go on our Yeti, I reckon one of these will make a nice replacement.

They should be, but i'd suggest calling local dealers in advance or asking VW UK which dealers near to you have one to avoid a wasted journey (been there / done that) - My local dealer still hasn't had their demo delivered yet and they're not a small dealer either, but if I drive 15 - 30 minutes away 2 other dealers had both a demonstrator and static showroom model.

At £12k through a broker these look a brilliant deal.

Under a ton and 170lbft torque

Where do I sign?

Because they would be more expensive and as you say, they're just not needed.
