Hi

I bought my wife a 225 TT coupe and she (and I) love it. It is a 2003 with avus silver paint, black leather and 18' RS alloys.

The car is such good fun with a huge amount of grip.

I had never bought an Audi before and found the TT forum useful.

Things to point out:

1. Get one with history
2. Get the 225bhp
3. If buying with over 60K on the clock ensure tensioners/cambelt and water pump have been replaced (or use as a GOOD bargaining tool)
4. Get the Bose upgraded stereo

The dashpod thing is hit and miss, the wife hasn't had a problem to date. I think Audi will replace it FoC under a goodwill deal negotiated by the TT forum.

The TT forum is very good with a great buyer's guide.

You do get a lot of car for the money and a low mileage 2002/2003 will cost around £13k.
They are solid and suprisingly good fun.

why does no-one ever recommend the 3.2?

Perhaps because there are a lot fewer about & less people have experience of them?

(and because you only get 5bhp per tonne extra for all the extra fuel consumption?)

Yep,

For the much higher fuel consumption you don't really get much more bang for your buck !

The 225 is the sensible choice. (IMHO)

Spent the weekend looking at 12 cars…. 10 of these were at two dealers who had a good selection. None of these really took my fancy and the one dealer did nothing but hack me off… how can some sales people be SO bad!

Anyway, the one I really fancied, a private seller, 2002 car asking £11500 turned out to be poor. . Two reasons I rejected this one, the wheels rims were badly scratched, not a big deal, but the main thing was the roof strips were RUSTY! You could see the rust under the paint and it looked as if it would break through soon… how common is this?

Today I looked at a car at a VW dealer, 2004, a colour I like, 48k miles with a screen price of £14,999. After a bit of haggling he agreed to come down to £14500 and said he would do a service and change the water pump and cam belt.

Does this sound reasonable? I am mulling it over tonight and will decide tomorrow, any thoughts appreciated

Thanks for all your help so far!

Hi Guys,

do any of you know how to get round having these extras and paying huge amounts on insurance for having modifications?

my quote for a 150 with upgraded alloys (16 ins are just too small and silly), to 17 in just added over £200k to my insurance and with the company that would quote - a £575 excess!

I may as well get a standard 180 - do you know what wheels come as standard on a 180

does everyone tell their insurance if the wheels have been changed - if your car is written off will they not pay out etc?

really making my car chosing tricky as I wanted to keep costs down. I would be going for a 2002 onwards 180 between £12 & 15k max.

any help
cheers

Angie

The deed is done….

2004 225 coupe in misano red with red nappa leather
48k miles
Full Audi history
UK car
Bose
Sports suspension (they all had this?)
6 CD
Concert radio (what ever that is)
Oh and cruise control which was one of my "like to have" options.

Its from a VW Main Deler and they are doing a service, cam belt and waterpump as part of the deal.

I pick it up next week!

Thanks for all the advice guys!
