Well personally I dont think I could ever spend more than £10k on a used car (and wouldnt buy a new car) I'd also be buying at least 3 years old maybe 5 years old> In addition I would certainly keep the car going for at least 5 years so given the longer term depn becomes less significant annually as a cost .... but still high.
so you will never buy a car for more than 10k? or ever have a lovely brand spanking new car?poor you. i bet you squeak as you walk.

I quite fancy one of those E55 AMG's with 465bhp - new they were 65k+ options, most will have been highly specced too... I wouldnt dream of spending that much on a car clear my debts & mortgage thank you but instead they are getting close to the £10k mark now for a 53reg car with mid50/60k... I'd take that every day of the week over say a brand new Fiat Punto/Ford Fiesta.
I also like the idea of the RS4 Avant - not the current one but the older W-X reg ones 380bhp £11k nets you a near on £50k car & its a car that is lauded as an amazing car practical, hewn from granite & basically a car you could frankly brag about.
Quite fancy the E46M3 they start around £8k these days for leggy ones thats a mid £40k car that is considered to be the best performance you could buy new so used its even better.
Buying new offers little pros, yes you get the novelty of the new reg plate, the Manufacturers warranty (but in these times what good is that if the manufacturer goes bust?), new car smell - well you can clean up an old car & buy products to give that smell, everything works as it should (well on most new cars they do) I'll give you that one running an older car there is always something that needs to be done but thats part of being a car enthusiast.
New car clearly tyres, brakes, shocks, seats will not need changing in 3 years driving style dependant used well you should buy with that recently done OR barter down the cost of doing those repairs.
Lastly the big pro for buying a new car over used is the drivers seat - yes noone will ever have been sat on it farting & sewating & poo flakes into it. But if that does bother you buy a new seat or get it re covered.
