Why not a minty E36 M3 in restrained colours and sensible interior.
Can be pootled about in, and yet can rip its top off and wave its breasts in the face of whatever you're 'avin a go at in a flash.
Economical, if you like that sort of thing.
Also steers from the correct end. Unfortunatly no wipers in the side windows though, sadly.

Obviously, driven like larry layback holding the top of the steering wheel with my right hand. Innit.
I wouldn't like that, on account of my puffy nips draw unwanted attention.

I get 0.01p per post.
I'm homing in on a clear profit of thirty pence - tax free!
friend had a 225 s3, what is your price range as they range from about £5k to £11k?
it was a lovely car with alcantara and bose etc, nice interior and went well and gripped well but not much steering feel (not the end of the world) but my main bugbear was that it just sounded like a hairdryer. i am sure this can be remedied with a few quid and i do like them a lot.
underrated in my opinion.

Well I love mine.
Bad points are:
- Sounds like a hairdryer
- Ride a little on the harsh side
- Audi dealers are generally rubbish and expensive
- Not a lot of steering feel
Good points are:
- Understated good looks
- Feels special, not just another car
- Relatively economical for the power
- Easy to modify
- Huge grip and traction
- Brisk (when remapped)
- Excellent build quality
- Practical
Mine is reluctantly for sale due to impending parenthood.

Quints?
There's an S3 buyers guide over on a.s-net which is worth reading.
Based on your budget you will be able to pick up the later 225 BAM engine if you like but the 210 engines with codes APY & AMK will re-map to the same level if that's your thing?
Also, The "facelift" version which changed the interior layout slightly & fitted different lights started in late 2000 (roughly).
I've had mine for just under 2 years and although it's been a complete lemon in that time (bodged engine repair done by previous owners garage which I didn't know) I'm still keeping it as it's a very competent all rounder & a little bit of a "Q" car which appeals to me.
