Thats much lower than I anticipated... I average 31-33mpg in my Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo doing 15-18k a year the Fiat official combined is 28mpg and the extra urban is 36mpg.

I drive it quite hard too and on M way usually sat at 0.8 - 0.9 leptons and every day use the full rev range.

So given that its a 12 year old engine & gets a dose of Tesco Unleaded all the time how can the far newer and far more fuel efficien GTI unit deliver so badly??
Weighs more with all the airbags, safety gizmos etc.
Got aircon/climate and driver & passenger airbags - 2 door clearly and only 16" rims.

Golf has 6 airbags, probably heavy crash bars, big wheels and probably loads of other stuff that contributes to its weight. And depending on which Fiat you have, the golf has more power out of the engine.

Very nice. Red not my colour but in all other aspects my ideal car. Personally wouldn't go for DSG on a car that didn't have any warranty left on it.

Reds the best colour IMO. DSG is a must for me, makes the car even better.

Dag interesting choice but how east is it to convert from 6 on the floor? Has to be grey black or silver red is a risky colour come resale

Sorry don't quite know what you mean, and red is an iconic colour for the GTI, like deep blue for the R32.

i've owned a mk v gti from new for just over 3 years. covered 56k miles.

trip computer tells me an average combined over the above mileage of 30.1 mpg.

in that time it has been serviced 3 times - at an approx cost of £200 a time.

i have had front tyres replaced three time and rears replaced once.

nothing else has gone wrong. mine is a dsg car.

it is totally excellent and i can thoroughly recommend it.

One thing to note that on DSG cars the gearbox and oil must be changed at 40K miles and every 40K thereafter. It can cost anywhere from £150 to £250 depending upon dealer.

Is this in the service manual/on the VW servicing prices? Not sure I have seen it& if its not on the list its not required + if it only causes longer term issues who cares i will be sold on by then so an issue for the next owner not your so ave some £.

It's in the service schedule and is a must for any warranty claims

Weird attitude, what if the last owner did that to you and your car broke down because he/she skimped out? It's probably required for a goodwill claim after 3 years or if you want to re-new the warranty.

Do you sell you car just serviced new pads and discs new tyres full mot and fully taxed or do you sell it when it's coming up to those jobs if your the latter pm me when your planning on selling as I'd be high on that wanting list.

Note most Indy dealers don't service their cars until it's got a deposit

True but it depends how long you keep the car and how many miles you do. It's up to each individual what they do to there car

I run my cars for many years 6 usually and next time round after I finish with it will go to the wife and she then run it until it's had it thatsaid 40 k gearbox oil change is an added hassle and cost

As I say each to there own, it doesn't really bother me. I wouldn't have a R32 if I was overly concerned by a couple of hundred quid, that doesn't even cover 6 months road tax.

The reason I brought it up is that I know many people buy 2nd hand cars and it's something to check in the history along with oil and filter on the Haldex if it has AWD.

Got my testdrive in the GTI booked for next week. The car has a DSG so I may change my tune afterwards.

DSG seems to be very marmite - you either love it or hate it. You will know soon.
