Did they send you the final finance forms before your car arrived at the dealership? Mine arrived today but I've not had anything emailed through yet.

Yes VW Crewe. I'm happy with the whole process from them.
It was driven down, only 80 miles away. Like you that doesn't bother me at all. In 2 years time it will be over 30,000.

One thing I am surprised at is no powered boot closing mind, would've thought that would be standard ?
They're a gimmick unless you have a medical need - they close so slowly they're annoying. And, while not an issue on a lease, they're notorious for being problematical as the car gets older - takes a lot of effort for a little motor to open and close the boot.SteBrown91 said:
Mate of mine has a Cyprus spec golf and his was missing he Apple use port. You can buy the plug in module that goes in the back of the usb unit for about 20 quid
Do you have any details of that, please? I've had a bit of a Google and can't see anything.I wonder what turns a USB port into an Apple USB port?

Time to flick through the 500 page manual. Does anyone actually read it all cover to cover?
The online manual is quite handy if you think of something while away from the car: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/manualsTook a few weeks for it to recognise our reg number so I used one from a similar car.

No some earlier cars couldn't be retrofitted with app connect because the USB port was the wrong part number, it wasn't apple certified. So you need to replace the USB port before you add the app connect licence.
I find it hard to believe that the cars would be fitted with different USB ports depending on whether the head unit was spec'd to include CarPlay already activated or not.Who knows though - maybe if CarPlay is built-in already it's OK, and it's only on retrofitting that it checks the USB port??
I wonder how an Apple certified USB port differs from any other.

If I wanted to get carnet activated would Crewe VW have to do before collection or could any local dealer sort it out for me?
I've looked into it but nothing I could find was conclusive whilst at work.
If it's compatible then any dealer can do it. Indeed you can buy the activation key online and (I think) do it yourself. Wonder if it's a one-time only thing? I've looked into it but nothing I could find was conclusive whilst at work.

Anything that is marked as "made for iPhone/iPod" has to have a certain chip in it to work with the devices correctly. The module has to have this chip in. The usb unit has the standard module for generic devices and then a 2nd one for iPhones. The chip module can just be plugged into the blank port on the back of the USb unit. If you get app connect activated and your car doesn't have the module then android auto still works. Who knows though - maybe if CarPlay is built-in already it's OK, and it's only on retrofitting that it checks the USB port??

I believe though that most uk spec cars have the apple module and just need app connect activated

I also asked about picking it up - I think it has to be a weekday as you're dealing with the fleet guys, so a Friday should be fine - just send them an email and ask. If you drive it back to Cornwall, isn't that like half of your 5000 annual miles gone?
