Just had a phone call to say our GTI Clubsport has just left the factory and should be 4 weeks. Mad timing!

Good news indeed … I wonder if the supply chain in general is starting to ease a little with more cars being built, don’t see any signs of main dealer lease / pcp deals dropping which are currently silly pricing for in stock cars and I bet they’ll hold on to the hiked pricing as long as they can get away with it - my local VW wanted 1k a month for a 18 month old touareg- daylight robbery !

Had mine about 6 weeks now (although been away for 2 of those).

There are a few quirks to the Touareg (for context, I previously had an XC60)

As mentioned, the heated seats/steering wheel stay on, until switched off again. I’m used to it being auto over/under 10 degrees.

The menus in the superb entertainment system are very complex and difficult to customise, popular functions hidden behind lots of menus (difficult whilst driving)

The gearbox has a strange habit of holding onto the gears just a little too long, like it wants to tow something. This is less obvious now though as I’ve just returned from Florida where my hire car was a 6.3L V8 Chevrolet Tahoe - that thing wanted to tow the moon down to Earth!

I find it mental that Apple CarPlay isn’t wireless in the Touareg but is on other VW models and plenty of cheaper vehicles.

The VW app that allows remote access is crap! The Volvo one I had previously recorded every journey, allowed remote climate control, remote and scheduled start up in the mornings and export of details for expense purposes.
The VW one allows me to lock & unlock the car…

Despite all that, the car is beautiful and I wouldn’t swap it for anything else at the moment 😀

Yes. I wondered if I was doing something wrong to not get Apple CarPlay without using a wire, so I gave up. Glad you confirmed it.
Strange.
Best car we’ve had for road trips, plenty space, nice to be in, just the “quirks” mentioned above that seem needless and take away from the experience.
The other car is a Tesla M3 so I’ve seen how good an app can be, so I had higher hopes for the VW app, but it’s not much use. It did however show that a window was left open at Glasgow Airport car park (where we’d dropped the car at the terminal) so I was able to call from Greece to tell them to close it!

Hi All
Any body had any more updates on delivery &/or build dates for their lease orders?
Waiting for 286 TDI Black Edition, ordered Jan 2022; first promised for July 22 delivery, now slipped to Dec 22 as of July update.
Will be chasing the lease company again if we don’t get an update by the end of the month…..

I’ve been fortunate in going direct to a vw dealer ( Newcastle) original order Jan 22 as they pulled out all the stops in finding an alternative spec vehicle that was in build so I went from a standard BE grey metallic to moonlight blue…. I had earlier specd 4 wheel steering but was advised this build wouldn’t be available until at least April 2023 so scrubbed it….

BMW 840i GC goes back the day before- great car but looking forward to the practical side of the Touareg and the ease of getting in / out !

What a bargain we had with the 8 series lease!

I went direct through VW too. But have a few options including rear wheel steering, so might explain the delay, as more standard configurations can probably be fulfilled from cancelled orders in the pipeline. No advice from VW dealer though. Only hope is the later it is the more likely spec will get increased. Some options you would think would be standard at this price point aren’t, plus hoping park assist plus with memory comes to the model.

I think the basic VW Touareg BE is well specd personally and offers reasonable value , a BMW X5 would be close to twice monthly lease payment regardless of price point or rrp as that’s irrelevant these days plus X5 doesn’t have 21 inch wheels or panoramic roof as standard…

I've posted on here a couple of times summarising our BE 286.

The gear box is frustrating. I've found is best either in ECO mode for smoother lower speed driving or manual mode.

After 2 years its still a great car. Better in many ways than the RR Sport or X5. The engine, space and refinment continues to impress me.
But the gearbox programming, safely systems and controls just make it frustrating and difficult to gel with.

The gearbox could be better but I've never found it an issue that bugs me even though I drive the 8 series which has a superb auto box.

The safety systems - I coded lane assist off and also activated the dynaudio profile. The impact sensor has come on a few times but is far less intrusive than in a new A6 I had which actually slammed on the brakes a few times.

Not a fan of the steering wheel buttons I have put the heated wheel on accidently a few times. Rest of the controls I'm fine with.

Was the coding done by your or an independent?
I’m keen but was worried re warranty etc.
Front crash assist has done me once. Nearly needed new underwear!!

My detailer does any coding like that using OBD11 I believe. I have never had a problem taking it in for servicing etc as have done this on previous VAG cars and returned coding to normal prior to it going back. Heck,

I stuck a full Milltek system on my S5 lease and took it to the dealer with it on, removed it before return and had no issues. Understand if others were not as up for doing things like that.

Noticed this on leaseloco - unusual to have an instock vw Touareg must be a one off cancellation - pricing is a little eye watering though!

Hmmmm. Wonder how many available 'in stock'? if more than a handful, then it's an absolute farce for those who have been waiting well over 12 months+ for a cheaper deal! (not unexpected at all). Mine apparently due in January, ordered early July last year. We will see.
