First impressions

It feels like a much more grown up car.

The interior is a big step up. Digital display is very nice. Seats and interior quality are better than our last car. Gearbox is improved and is more feelsome/ less rubbery. (Gearbox has been taken from the Golf). The new ventilation/ heating is an improvement. The digital heater control is easy to use and miles better than the last car which was pretty hopeless.

Still got to get to grips with all the tech that is standard such as adaptive cruise and lane assist. Nice to have auto wipers which we didn’t on the previous one.

Engine is much better although we only had the 80PS engine last time as my daughters were learning to drive. This is the 95PS 1.0 and is nippy enough but not quick. Perfect for my daughters usage. Ride seems unchanged over out outgoing model and has always been pretty good.

The design is great IMO. The visual tweaks make it look like a bigger car and at first glance it looks like a Golf.

Early days but very pleased so far

Thanks Mike. 2 colours in fact - one in grey one in black wink

The grey is an interesting colour, almost has a purple hue. Hard to see in that photo as it is indoors, but quite striking in the flesh. Black looks very smart

Interestingly the dealership are retailing my old car for less than they paid Me in px. They must make all of their money on the finance or prices are starting to fall again.

Just heard from my VW dealer that I've "supposedly" got a confirmed build week of 22 now (early June I assume). I'm assuming this is a Status 20 on the order now.

Still time for things to slip etc. But at least it looks like in theory at least, that the Polo's are coming through a bit quicker than some other VW models (EG. the Golf).

Always nice to get a little update from the dealer. Fingers crossed it stays on schedule for you

Week before mine. Might even be on the same boat.

Out of interest what was your original quoted hand over date ?
I`m hoping mine has now moved to a 20 from 24, as on my order ,I was expected to have a dealer handover on the 29 /04/22.

The original build week of mine was 26, with a projected delivery sometime in October.

Though I shall hold my breath until I get the "thumbs up" that's it's actually been built. Then it's a 6/8 week trip over from SA to the UK. Assuming it doesn't have to wait too long to get a berth (so to speak),

Done when it's done. As they say smile

I'm going to ask my dealer for another update tomorrow, as I am concerned about the speed limiters in cars after July. That alongside a black box ( eventually) for a learner driver is something I would prefer to be without.

The speed limiters you mention are only on "new" cars seeking type approval after the 6th July 2022. This should not effect the current Polo.

After July 2024 though ... ALL new cars sold in the UK will have to have these fitted.

A lot of the articles that are written about this are not really presenting the facts correctly.

PS. One of the better write up regarding ISA (Intelligent Speed Assist):

That's good to hear MikeDo, the information online is not the best, and I've just finished a 9 page thread on here.

At the risk of serious thread drift here...

Having said the above. The Adaptive Cruise Control on the new Polo does seem to have something called Predictive Cruise Control. And this looks to pretty much do the same sort of thing as the Intelligent Speed Assist. Though only if using the cruise control I'm assuming here (IE. not always on).

I've just had a confirmed week 23 today. 6th July.
Hopefully mine will be on the same boat as yours.
For August or September

Good news indeed.

Out of interest. When did you order yours?

Had this email today, not sure if car has gone into production now, or whether it's in relation to the date my dealer gave me for the 6th June .

Email from Inchcape this morning:

We have a very rare opportunity to purchase a brand new Polo GTI and drive it away immediately.

As you will be aware, there is a national shortage of new cars, Inchcape Volkswagen Telford have managed to secure a limited number of brand new Polo GTI.

Do not miss out, call us on 01952 237900.

Eddie24 ... looking good smile
Though you appear to have ordered a fair bit before me (IE. October, as opposed to my early Feb).

Just sent off another Email to my dealer, as I've just remembered that he never got back to me last time I asked about the order status (IE. has it moved from Status 10 to 20)..

Things definitely appear to be moving a bit now. There appears to be three screens worth of "supposedly" new Polo GTI's in-stock for sale on Autotrader.

Probably the chosen options slowing things down, or that the car is a manual. Dsg seemed to be being built quicker, but everything seemed quicker than my October order. Seems like VW wasted 2 months tbh. I doubt I would get insurance on a GTI for a 17 year old, but the GTI looks very nice indeed.
