Lease on Golf R
Discussion
Hi all
Has anyone added options (specifically Dsg in my case) to an order already placed?
Mine is currently showing processing on vw order tracker and I wanted to change to dsg from manual.
Vw dealer said that would mean changing costs to current expensive deals and instead of 2400 initial payment it would be 6000...
Thanks

It will need a re-quote. Same situation when the dealer had a sooner build slot that I could of had. He didn't realise from the 1st that the difference would be well over £100 a month so that turned out as a no go. Kept my original date instead.Has anyone added options (specifically Dsg in my case) to an order already placed?

Well, the long wait is nearly over!
Ordered my car on 20th June and it's now sitting at the dealer's (Inchcape Cheltenham) and due for delivery on Tuesday, all paperwork etc completed and ready to go. Credit to Phil, Dave and Steffi for making it all a pretty painless experience (apart from the 5 month wait
)
Better yet, I just phoned up to arrange insurance (Admiral multicar policy) and the additional premium to renewal in March for the Golf for fully comp, 12k pa, inc business use, me and Mrs BB to drive, amounts to an extra.....
.....£76 !!!
![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Just got to sort out GAP now as Admiral only go to market value but still - great value, eh?
Roll on Tuesday!

surely that was a typo?
The rouge salesman that offered whatever people asked for without actually checking to see if it was possible ?
Without bringing up the whole leasegate chat again I think to be fair Phil was doing exactly what every other lease company was doing at that time (putting personal proposals through via sole traders) and not just with Golf R's but many other marks. I believe this exploitation strategy went higher up the corporate tree so sales individuals were told to do as such. The rouge salesman that offered whatever people asked for without actually checking to see if it was possible ?

Ive worked in sales, specifically car sales. What Phil did was not sales. it was lies with no hope in hell of delivering what he promised - hence him being sacked!
with cooling off periods on finance agreements there is no 'ha you've already signed now so too bad..'defence any more.
^^^ this.
It wasn't just Phil who was offering these deals to customers, it was an established procedure that - as far as I can gather - pretty much all salespeople were doing with the knowledge of VW and the finance side. What screwed the whole thing up was on this very cheap deal on the R, the franchised dealers were demonstrably more expensive on quotes to private customers and they complained to VW who had to do something about it. Whether Phil left or was asked to leave, I honestly do not know but if the latter, I think the word "scapegoat" may have been applicable.
In any case, Some of us have ended up with the deal as promised which is little consolation to those that didn't but Phil was a decent bloke to deal with and kept in touch regularly so I'll stand by my original post.
PS I think the typo was yours: He never mentioned being a "rouge" salesman![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)

You all assume i was talking about the personal vs business lease gate issue. i wasn't.
I was lied to on the following items.
Price for full maintenance (quoted £11 p/m turned out to be £25 a month)
tyre cover included on maintenance (it wasn't - this was another £3 a month)
tyre cover includes ANY puncture (it wasn't it only covers repairable punctures, if you need a new tyre because of puncture its down to you)
Estimated delivery date (end of September promised - order number given is STILL being built now - dealership sorted me out same spec car they had on order as a demo after phil was sacked)
waited 4 days at a time for return calls
did not respond to one of my emails.
'lost' the proposal form that i sent which included bank details etc
Quoted and 'agreed' price with phil - £275 p/m
price i am actually paying for the same thing - £303 p/m
dealership has admitted that i was lied to on more than one occasion and therefore given compensation as a result. So i would say the words 'scapegoat' or 'just a salesman' are inaccurate for the experience i had.

Well, Pixel, those are very different issues to the so-called "Leasegate" ones and I won't comment other than to say if youreceived some compensation then something was obviously wrong and your experience was different from mine which is all I can offer a personal view on. Fair enough?
Incidentally, have just done the GAP with ALA online - very quick and easy and just over £100 for the 2 years.

Whoops. Looks like GMP's Golf R testing didn't go to plan. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2092245/Ca...
I saw a Midland's unmarked VW Golf GTi a few months ago on the M40.

I can only comment on my dealings with Phil.
I had an offer on the table from Freedom (who btw as soon as I spoke with them said "all you have to do is fill in a personal form and we put it through as a sole trader") and Phil beat it, ordered the car up and that was that. OK i may have been one of the lucky ones (who btw still doesn't have a car but its at stage 5 i think) but i was never promised anything that wasn't delivered.
I'm not defending anyone but i very much doubt one person was solely responsible for the lease mess regarding the golf R. Phil always answered my emails even over the weekend...even regular calls to confirm acceptance of my proof documents etc so i cant grumble...and to be honest if he had and I missed out what have i lost? the chance of a cheap car? there are always others.....

Of course fair enough, based on my conversations with the dealership afterwards i was not the only one that was mislead so my apologies for assuming you were one of them and had just included phil on the credits without realising.Im happy that based on the responses my comment got that i must have been in the minority for the bad experience.
Have to also add that Dave and Steffi have been amazing and more than made up for Phils failings.
As a whole, the dealership rescued a really bad situation.
Breaking bad, apologies if you took offence to anything i said, it certainly wasn't my intention to dig at you, just the salesman.
