can you elaborate please.Living in the hilly Peak district with relatively hard winters I lose count of the number of people crashing 4 wheel drive cars. I have two LR Discoveries and these vehicles also struggle in such weather without decent tyres or chains.
My expectation is that I will put winters on the R every year but even then it will struggle in overtly icy or deep snow or steep declines.

Haven't had any snow yet so just trying to prepare myself.
Re winter tyres - i have nowhere to keep spare wheels and have no motivation to swap stuff around so ill make do with standards and just be cautious.
memories of my old EP3 type r and 3mm of tread in the snow of Feb 2010 and trying to get up even a slight incline still haunt me lol.
Mine is ordered! Now it's just the long wait ahead! Although my lease consultant did say their supplier (I assume the dealership) has had an amendment to a current vehicle which has a build week of week 17. He implied this was mine. I am assuming I am taking someone else's vehicle who wanted to amend something substantial enough to free up this build schedule.
I have just received the email below.

I originally thought the prices were inc. VAT and I only worked it out in my head!
I have edited my original post now I have confirmation they are ex. VAT - shame, I thought they were quite good.

Got the call yesterday to say my confirmed build week is BW8 and scheduled for 15th Feb. Starting to get mildly excited :-)
I was told it takes a month to get the car from your confirmed BW, how accurate is this as we need to get rid of one of our cars?
Regarding Lapiz or Lapis, on my order sheet and the order tracker it is spelt with a 'Z'

Yep, and that's how the brochure shows it too (so not after Lapis gemstone then, unless that's the German of course)I was told it takes a month to get the car from your confirmed BW, how accurate is this as we need to get rid of one of our cars?

It has been nearly a year since I got my Volkswagen Golf R, here you can see a long term owners view of the Golf R and what a real one looks like opposed to all these pristine versions Or in other words, I didn't wash mine

Good review... Can't wait to get mine.... Bring on BW11!! http://www.oooia.com/real-volkswagen-golf-r/
Sorry, not been on in a few days - just as gazzab said. It'll get you up an incline for sure, but otherwise, it slid everywhere. The wide tryes will not help either I suppose.
I will confess, the Rado has (worn) GY winters on the front. I was taking the R out a back road to see how it got on and there was a short steep incline - and we were making painfully slow progress until I remembered to switch the traction control off fully and let the Haldex do it's thing. some slipping and shuffling but it got up much quicker! In snow having a Haldex AND traction control trying to work at the same time on acceleration stuff seems like too many cooks...
Summer tyres on ice and snow will be rubbish as soon as you touch the brakes or try and go down hill. AWD drive has no relevance in that situation. Slight icy or snowy inclines or flat sections will be fine (and better in the AWD R than in most 2 wheel drive cars with comparable tyres) so long as you dont need to brake but again the summer tyres will be a limiting factor.
Living in the hilly Peak district with relatively hard winters I lose count of the number of people crashing 4 wheel drive cars. I have two LR Discoveries and these vehicles also struggle in such weather without decent tyres or chains.
My expectation is that I will put winters on the R every year but even then it will struggle in overtly icy or deep snow or steep declines.Ok, cool. I have been reminding myself constantly that just because i can start off better than a 2wd car, i won't stop or steer any better lol.

Hi All,
Wow, can't believe the size of this thread! Everyone on the internet is going to have one!
Ordered mine around 10th of October, it has been built and is now at the Dealer so hoping to have it in a week or two - quite excited now.
6+23
£1340 down, £223 a month inc vat.
Bog standard, red 3dr, manual but will do me!
Have sat in one but not test driven one, not even been in a mk 5, 6 or 7 2.0 gti or R yet so will be interesting to see what it's like.
Nick

Not really. It's not even relevant to lease cars. Admiral have changes their t&cs , as have many insurance companies. As always. Read your policy before you buy like any intelligent person would.Aviz said:

I bought a policy online, with me as registered owner, the ins cert said i could drive other cars.I phoned them to change to Leaseplan as registered owner, the ins cert then said i couldnt drive other cars.
The thread was created for information purposes, to highlight the change for those that are unaware.
Many people probably have their leased cars insured incorrecty anyways, so perhaps it will highlight that at least.
Certainly no need to question my intelligence, which is more than adequate.
Looks like some good deals are available again:

With the way these are virtually being given away on lease, would anyone have a rough idea what they will sell for when they are 2 years old, surely the value has to take a hit, I might look at buying an R in a couple of years
I think most people were calculating c. £10k depreciation. Although, I didn't quite look into possible residuals etc when I got mine. I think the only issue you'll have is getting a "good one", as many people may not look after the car the same they would it being purchased.
