I think I am going to reduce cover from my initial thought of £15k to £10k and add the 'deposit' cover. I too would rather have the (relatively small cost) cover in place just incase.

I got the MK mail too and I questioned him regarding delivery - they are transported to a preparation facility in MK and then driven (carefully driven whistle ) to either your home or the MK or Aylesbury dealership for collection.

I have suggested to him that I would prefer to collect from the MK dealer on the assumption that it will be driven far fewer miles before I actually get to drive it?
There are far too many opportunities to rag it on the way from MK to Aylesbury - I want to be the first person to put a few stone chips on it, not the person who spots them when collecting it laugh
Fair point. I hadn't thought about that. Besides it's a good opportunity to collect from MK yourself so that you can drive it back to Aylesbury which is a nice quick (and generally quiet) route.

Especially if you take a detour to Buckingham, through padstow, adstock Winslow etc. A really nice drive.

They use those guys you see standing by the side of the road with trade plates to move the cars. I wouldn't be up for that - looking forward to doing the decent trip from Halifax to Oxford myself!

If you drive for a living you are generally very careful with your licence.

Many of them are retired people - and certainly the Audi and BMW teams get them train home. The one I talked to loved it - he got to drive all sorts, and then got paid to sit on the train reading the paper... the money was rubbish but it kept him busy!

They hire the retired guys because they get senior train ticket prices and its cheaper for the company.

Yup. Plus they generally don't mind the uncertainty / peaks-troughs of work as they aren't relying on the salary.

Just a note of caution on the GAP cover. Whilst not an expert in insurance, I do know a fair amount about different types of finance, if you are going to take out 'Deposit Insurance' make sure it covers 'Advance Rentals'.

If you've taken the VWFS Personal Contract Hire option (which I think is most of us) you do not own the car, you are renting it. Therefore your payment up front isn't a deposit, it's rentals payable in advance, even if the the exact figure payable isn't divisable exactly by a normal rental payment.

Disclaimer; not a recommendation either way - just make sure you've read and understood the small print smile

GAP123 state this on their 'Deposit Protection; tick box (£35):

Finance and Contract Hire Deposit Protection means that if your vehicle is written off instead of simply walking away with no further financial responsibility you will also be reimbursed your deposit or initial payment up to the maximum of £2000.

Hopefully by initial payment, they mean initial payment smile

When quoting on gap123 what did you guys enter for 'Price of the vehicle'? I don't think I've actually seen a list price anywhere because it's obviously irrelevant to PCH?

I used the RRP from the configurator on vw.co.uk.

Mine was £34,515 - bit higher than standard due to the paint.

I've been using £33895 for Standard Paint and Car-Net App Connect

Can I assume that you need the vehicle reg to pull the trigger on the GAP insurance, and that none of you will have the reg details yet and so have just been getting quotes?

I'm not sure when I get any more paperwork through such as reg details. All I know is the car is sat on the German dockside waiting for a ship to Grimsby smile

Have you picked yours up or are picking it up soon?
Or was it on another lease deal you got yours?

Ideally, I'd like to sort out GAP before I collect the car.
Looking at what happened to the guy who picked up his R yesterday, and got crashed into, I wouldn't like to drive it 'un-gapped'

Ah, I don't have my contract papers yet, just the order form.

Jeez - sounds bad. Is there another thread about that crash?

I don't have anything either, my build week is this week, but I like to be prepared.

I'd be thoroughly disappointed if that happened to me, after all the waiting and everything, and having only driven it 46 miles!

I want to make sure I'm insured as much as I can be!
