I've got the supercharged 3.0 V6 S5.
Really good engine and enjoy the way it drives. Makes a better noise than I expected.
My experience is good of how it handles, specced the limited slip diff, dynamic suspension and dynamic steering; get all those working together and it eats up the corners.
These cars aren't ever going to handle like they are on rails (way too heavy), but add the right options to the mix and it works really well on a spirited b road blast.
I would recommend one.

^^^ Liking that!
I'm running a B8 S4 at the moment which I love but am hankering after a v8 - anybody got a view on whether a v8 S5 would be a decent upgrade? I've looked at other stuff (older C63, M3 etc) but am balking at the running costs and would miss the quattro traction. How much of a rumble does the v8 S5 give out of the box ?

The rumble is not really noticeable. Its quite timid IMHO.I'm running a B8 S4 at the moment which I love but am hankering after a v8 - anybody got a view on whether a v8 S5 would be a decent upgrade? I have owed the car for 5 years now. It's recently hit 40k on the clock and I can happily report the car is rock solid. There's been no issues at all. Well two years ago a slightly enthusiastic car washing place knocked out one of the parking sensors with their jet wash. I took it so Les Paul specialist who removed the bumper and glued the senors in place. It's been perfect since.
The car has been serviced at both Audi and an Audi specialist. I have replaced the brake discs/pads recently with a brembo set and also a set of tyres with Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2. I think again the costs were totally reasonable.
The car is hugely comfortable. I love the sound of the car too. It's definitively loud enough, I guess coming from the S2000 to this I found the V8 muted, but I now realise how much of a beast this car is.
I have to say it's been one of the best cars I have owned. I couldn't justify buying the RS5 over the v8 S5. It makes little sense to pay the huge premium.
The issue I am experiencing is I am not sure what I will replace it with! I can't find something that looks as good, is reasonable to own and run and has 4 wheel drive! I feel like holding it for another year!

It's the best car I've owned. The only thing I'm not too keen on is the exhaust is too muted - I'm thinking of getting a milltek or similar when the warranty expires in may. Either that or get an RS5
I also get annoyed with myself that I didn't get one with cruise control - it seems a rare option though. Why they didn't just have it as standard is beyond me.

It's an easy enough retrofit I think, just needs the extra stalk and coding. Mine had it done by the previous owner DibblyDobbler said:
Oi! In 2014 when I wanted one it was
LOOOOL love it! So sorry... blame the S2000!Lostprophet said:

Didn't realise cruise is an option. My car is loaded to the brim. It's missing a sunroof but has it all other than that. I also get annoyed with myself that I didn't get one with cruise control - it seems a rare option though. Why they didn't just have it as standard is beyond me.
okay, so I've sold the S5 this morning! She's gone.
I bought her for £23.5k back in April 2012 and sold her for £15.5k. The car has depreciated 8k over 5.5 years which is about £1.5k p.a. That's nothing at all. The car insurance was about £300 per year. The recent major Audi service cost me £440. The minor Audi service was £199 and an independant service was actually the same cost at £200.
The car didnt have any issues during the ownership. The car did have squeaky windows on hot days. A bit of window polish sorted that out. I have only had to replace tyres and brakes and pads which were about £200 on the car. There car did not need any other work done on it apart from gluing back a parking sensor on the car which was about £40. I have replaced 4 tyres since owning the car which has cost £800. The total costs of all servicing costs, parts (tyres and brakes/pads) comes to £2k. That is over 5.5 years!!!!
Overall the car has cost me £10k to own (costs of running and depreciation). Thats cheap as chips!!!

I think it is sensible. Okay fuel costs are high compared to a prius but overall when it costs so little to maintain the car, depreciation isnt much then what does it matter on fuel costs?
It's not been replaced as of yet. I'm thinking of either a M6, RS6 (If I can overcome my concerns about it's reliability) or a RS5 convertible. All going to cost st loads to own and run.
The s5 v8 is a cheap car to own. Nothing decent will come close to it on costs.
