Im guessing so, as the Sportback was slightly cheaper on lease so will have been more popular. You would either need a car sooner (before the sportback went into production) or really prefer the coupe to get the coupe while both are available I would think. For me it was a no contest as I prefer the look of the Sportback and the extra doors, cheaper price, hatchback boot are all pluses for me.
That's fair! I'm happy with the Coupe look, I just want it delivered when specified!Both cars look lovely - I do think the SB is more colour sensitive though based on its size. The white one from half a dozen pages back is a good example.

The hatchback boot is of more appeal to me than the doors to be honest!
Same for me.It's driven me nuts having a 3-series saloon and not being able to just chuck stuff in the boot when necessary. I'm looking forward to the practicality of the Sportback.

I actually must try and sit in the back just to see what its like.
I tried a Coupe in the showroom and there wasn't much room in the back when my seat was extended (I'm 6ft tall). I have a 14 year old son who is 5ft 10 so he would have been cramped in the back and hence the choice of Sportsback for me...NSS89 said:
Apologies if this is a dumb question but what is the actual VED price increase? Is it increasing by a few hundred pounds or more? Does anyone have an actual figure?
As I understand it, it is going up by £750.At the moment (I believe the S5 is 170g/km from memory) its £300 first year, £210 second year, so £510 altogether.
After April, it goes to £500 first year, £140 second year, and £310/year for it being over £40k. That comes to £1260.
I think I have the right figures and the correct interpretation?

Apologies if I have got this wrong but the second figures you gave total £640? 500+140? We would be handing it back at that point so the following years are irrelevant? At the moment (I believe the S5 is 170g/km from memory) its £300 first year, £210 second year, so £510 altogether.

So for example a Tesla would still be £310/year despite having no CO2 so no normal VED.

£310/year ON TOP of the yearly fees because of the RRP, not just after 2 years, until the car is 5 years old. It's £500+£310+£140+£310 if you get me?
So for example a Tesla would still be £310/year despite having no CO2 so no normal VED.
Yeah that makes complete sense now. Thanks for clearing it up - much appreciated!So for example a Tesla would still be £310/year despite having no CO2 so no normal VED.

So over the 2 year lease period an S5 coupe rated at 170g/km, and registered on/after 1 April 2017, is £500 in the first year and £450 in the second. Therefore £950 in total. If it is registered prior to 1 April 2017 the first year rate is £300 and the second year is, currently, £210 and so £510 in total or an additional £440 over the the first two years of the new car's life i.e. the lease period.
The £310 supplement for cars with list prices, excluding the first year VED cost, over £40,000 is not applicable in the first year but for the following 5 years.

So the first year doesn't get the £310? I'm sure posts on here (other than my post a few hours ago) mentioned the lease guys wanting another £750? Seems a bit odd them taxing it after year two without the first other than the VAT.The £310 supplement for cars with list prices, excluding the first year VED cost, over £40,000 is not applicable in the first year but for the following 5 years.

Correct. Not sure where the £750 increase is coming from as it's only £440 at current VED rates. Sounds like the brokers/dealers just jacking the price up.TomScrut said:

I think it does attract the supplement of £310 in the first year too.

This page here says otherwise. I looked at that article to do my first post but it's wrong if you read the gov.uk site linked above.This article, and in particular the tables at the bottom, is useful

£440 is far more palatable than £750 but still not cheap!
My contract with fleetsauce states:-
Maintenance = No
RAC = yes
RFL = yes
Not sure why we have to pay any extra, it all part of RFL.
My understanding is normal RFL is paid for but we might have to pay the extra £310 per year or whatever it is...
My email clearly has Fleetsauce sat in the fence until they hear from Audi.
it was published on the 8th July on the government website. So it's not new info.
Looks like if you do not have a build date it's May/June but they will get us an update in Feb.

Because when the contract was done they were expecting March deliver I suspect, and therefore the VED is lower. If that goes up, which it is going to, then their costs go up and that will generally only come from one place.Maintenance = No

Thanks Tom, that is pretty clear now. No wonder dealer looked puzzled when I told him first year VED was £810!£440 is far more palatable than £750 but still not cheap!
