My local indy has told me that my wife's Seat Leon Cupra shows signs of "tread stepping" on the rear tyres and that this can cause a noise that sounds like a worn bearing.

I have never heard this term before? What is it?, what causes it? and do i need to replace the tyres and or have the suspension looked at?

Apparently its common on the Ford Focus.

Help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Ahhhhh I had this. It's a known fault - they should do the suspension geo under warranty. Push for new tyres as well.

I got offered 60% on new tyres.

Really! The car is out of warranty unfortunately. Was there ever a recall?

I believe it's a known fault - this is the mk2 Leon btw.

The idiots sent it out with the rear suspension geo set wrong from the factory - try a 4wheel geo alignment from a decent place (not kwik fit!).

Had a similar problem on the back tyres on my Cupra R a few years ago. Exactly as you describe sounded like a wheel bearing . Only solution I found was to buy new tyres.

Mine is still a (very annoying) problem after the geo realignment.

I think new tyres are in the offing.

New tyres on order.

I had <2mm on the inside edges, >5mm on the outside frown

The odd thing is that the tyre wear appears even
