Hi, I am looking to buy a 150 as the insurance for me is around £600, whereas the 180/225 is around £1200!

I have read the other link on here and most talk about the 225, which I've never drove before, I have had a TT150 before.

I was looking for less than 40k miles, spending between £11k & £14k. is there a change to the 2002 model for the 150 as with the 225?

As I really need to get the 150 for insurance, my search is tricky as I'm looking for a 150 with leather heated seats and upgraded alloys. it is quite hard to find! I have however found one I like, it's 2004, morro blue, cream leather heated seats, 17 in alloys, for £11990 but the mileage is 61k - does this sound reasonable? or would I be better off spending more for a lower mileage car? (it seems you can pay up to an extra £2k for the same car with lower mileage- although none have the cream leather)- is it worth it?

what would I need to do to this ie cambelt change? at 80k? anyone know how much this costs? anything else - would you say go for it and that the car can take the mileage, or go for an older much lower mileage car? but this is a lovely one and cream leather is rare especially in the 150.

I'm getting really frustrated with my search to be honest and don't have anyone to bounce ideas off who knows/likes cars, so some feedback here would be really appreciated.

i will have around £11-12k cash (so the blue one with 61k would be ideal), or I could borrow £1-4k if I needed to spend more.

really interested on the mileage question and the cost of running a TT (my last one was a company car), so tyres, services, cambelt changes etc - would really appreciate.

I would probably be adding around £12-15k a year, and own for at least two years or more (unless circumstances change).

I've tried to paste a picture or link in here but it won't work. if you want to see the car please copy and paste this address:

Hi smile and welcome wavey

The first 150's hit the market in April 2003, so you won't be hit with the model change that happened with the 180/225.

They came with (IIRC) 16" alloys and a 5-sp gearbox as standard at that time, and there have been a small number of spec changes since. Tyres that size shouldn't be too expensive, although it looks from the picture that the alloy's may have been upgraded to 17" (check with the garage as it may change your insurance quotefrown ) - as a guide, my local chap does decent 17"'s at ~£85 per corner all in, but of course the price varies immensely with brands/dealers/geography.

Servicing, as with most things, depends on what service you have done, and who you get to do it - an independent could be from £150 and a main dealer, £300+. Again, a cambelt change depends on who does it, but if you're buying from a dealer, get them to do it (along with a 12month MOT) before you buy it. If not, budget/get it discounted from £200+ from an independent or £400+ from Audi. Other running costs such as fuel/tax are pretty similar to the rest of the range, but slightly better, (think band F for RFL and mid-thirties for mpg - no quattro drivetrain and ~200kgs lighter than the 225!).

As to the car you've seen, if it's the one in the pictures, it looks a lovely example. The Moro blue/cream combo goes really well together. I'd get the cambelt/pulleys/waterpump done as part of the purchase of the car, no sense in hanging back another 20k in case they do go (err on the side of caution as it's a big expense if it goes). Usual TT issues should be looked at - dashpod/suspension bushes/coils/anti-roll bars/hood tears/clutch pedal/etc.

I can't help you much on the price I'm afraid, as I don't know what the market is like for the 150, however a quick look on the Audi website shows the cheapest 150 with leather has just under 51k miles and is at £15.5k. It seems like your find - extra 10k miles for £3.5k less - looks good value. Parkers have a good list of what was/wasn't standard.

Hope this helps... smile

Hi Jep, I'm sure I've seen 2001 150's ? nope you're right just had another look - wow I hadn't noticed that lol.

anyway thanks for your response. I have queried with the dealer (not an audi dealership) and he has said the service book says cambelt not due until 115k but recommended at 80k, so with only 61k on it and the cost I don't think he would entertain doing this.

Maybe it's worth buying anyway and getting done myself given it is quite cheap for the spec.

I wasn't sure about the alloys/insurance, I wouldn't have to tell about the leather seat upgrades would I? if fitted at purchase I wouldn't mention?

in terms of checking the car - I really have no idea other than what I can visually see (luckily I have driven one before), I will look to see if the clutch is sitting low (I guess that's what you mean) - I guess then I will just have to see if sounds good and seems to drive ok - anything obvious or a way to test - will the dash problem be easy to spot - anything to look out for?

I don't really know anyone who knows about cars. My only reservation about this one was the mileage, but I think it's worth the saving and it's not over mileage for year (I don't think, basing 15k a year).

thanks for responding, I can't buy until end of March so this one may have gone, hope not.

EDIT - I have found a good insurance company who don't run a mile when you say 17 in alloys instead of 16!

Auto Direct, looks like they'll save me nearly £200 from a standard quote and £400 on quotline direct (with their fear of 17 in alloys) £650! with a ban! modification, legal cover and protected bonus - and less than £50 for full recovery service.

just in case anyone intersted - Auto Direct 0800 626616 - great!

My wife ran a 150 TT for a year or so. We traded it in last Jan (I know, I know, wrong time of year to sell...)

We didn't have any real probs with the car, other than the aforementioned dash prob (fuel gauge wasn't reading full even after refilling). Known Audi problem, sorted free of charge.

Tbh didn't notice much of a fuel saving over 225 (cousin has one) - poss due to lack of 6th gear on motorway.

Overall a good car all year round.

I would defo suggest buying sooner rather than later as a drop too is always more expensive once the sun comes out!

Servicing was every 20,000 miles, so actually wwant any worse than her previous car (puma) as it could go longer between them!

Hi Angie,

For what it's worth, if this is the car for you, I'd push for the cambelt/water pump change as part of the deal. If you look at the other thread where buzzer's bought an'04 225 with 48k on the clock, the seller is doing the change as a part of the purchase. If your seller really won't do the work, then ask for a discount and get it done yourself as soon as you can. I don't wish to sound all doom and gloom about it, but if it does go, then it really is a big thing to fix for the sake of ~£400.

With regards to the clutch, the problem I was referring to, unfortunately, isn't something that is easily detectable until it goes.frown

Hope you get the one you want though!
