Got a small issue with my lovely Audi Coupe 2.6 N reg.

Since I've had it I've had the rear brake discs changed and had a new PAS pump popped on as the old one was leaking.

However now whenever I start it up for the first time in the morning the brake warning light flickers on & off for about 3-5 minutes it then goes out for the rest of the day. The brakes and steering seem to be absolutely fine and I haven't got any low fluids. I know the brake light warning should flicker a bit when you start up but this going on for much longer than that. Putting your foot on the brake pedal has no effect, it just seems to go out on its own. Its been doing this for about the last two weeks.

Before I drag her back to my poor tame mechanic, thoughts?

Why should the brake warning light flicker a bit on start up?

Is it the 'brake light warning light' or the 'brake warning light' ?

If its the latter it could be the sensors on the front brakes not secured properly (or the opposite way around). The sensors are just an open or closed circuit.

ETA: Edited to take out low fluids smile

if its the (!), then its 90% going to be the brake bomb (brake pressure accumulator. really common issue on the B3/B4 cars.
http://www.20v.org/brakprob.htm
heres the problem and a few possible solutions/ ways to be sure.
this can be intermittent but make the brakes feel no different. can be un-nerving with the brakes being an issue. dealership will charge you the earth can be done by self or a good indy.

Thank you once again istoo, I will check this in the morning. Any idea how much a new bomb might cost?

i am with hman on this both AAH cars i have had did the same. One i fixed the other i left for 2 years and stayed as an intermittent fault.

Cost, i heard on thread recently on audifans.net with a guy being quoted £450 from a dealership. i imagine around half that would be a good indy price. Any indy will know this problem and no doubt carried it out, find one near you.

your welcome smile

Custom auto craft sell brake pressure accumulators a lot cheaper than £450.

We had a similar problem with our P reg convertable, the break light was flashing for some time, thinking it was the brake pads put it in for a service to be told the pads were fine but the reservoir level was slightly down, not knowing the sensors were linked. Even when the level is spot on the mark, the light ocasionally flashed, I found that by slightly over filling the problem was solved. Obviously a fault with the float switch and will get round to it one day ! ATB
