Hiya all, howzit doing...

So - I wonder if you can all help - i have just come out of a long (and twisted) relationship with TVR's (and a large number of them!) and decided to start playing with Golf's.

Now own a very nice 2002 1.8T gti with 20,000 miles on the clock - and guess i am intereseted in starting to "play"

does anyone have some ideas / suggestions for "fettling" that can be done, chip upgrades / brake caliper / disk / pad options / exhaust changes / suspension combinations etc...

Any decent websites / links / info would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Stuart.

Hi, welcome to the VAG fold...

There is ahuge amount of work that can be done to the 1.8T engine in all of its flavours.

Ranging from a simple remap right the way through to big turbos and rolling road maps.

My advice from owning several MK4 based vehicles is to do things int he following order:

- Suspension (it really does handle like a dog)
- Brakes (Brembo or porsche)
- Induction/Exhaust
- Intercooler
- Full on remap to take advantage of the above.

One thing you really need to keep an eye on is your lambda sensors and MAF sensor, the MAF is a common problem and it may need replacing to liven up the engine again. Any independant who is worth their salt should be able to do a VAG Com test run and identify if it needs replacing.

As for decent websites check out uk-mkivs.net.

Best place to look around on is http://uk-mkivs.net/ .

If it's been done to a Golf, it's been documented there. Great find to get a 2002 model with just 20,000 miles.

Suspension - I'd go for KW V2 coilovers.

Brakes - Rip them straight of a TT 225.

Induction/Exhaust - Dbilas induction and a Milltek exhaust.

Intercooler - loads of off the shelf kits available, don't go for a silly large one with the standard tiny turbo.

Remap - Revo is a good start even with the car otherwise standard and a Select+ will let you play with settings to tailor it to any other mods you might want to do.

Obviously there's a collosal range of options for styling bits too!
