Audi phone cradle
Discussion
My new Audi has the bluetooth phone preparation option but no cradle fitted for a phone, is Audi the best place to buy a phone specific cradle? Also, the dealer suggested that my current phone, a Nokia N73, isn't fully compatible with the Bluetooth installation, does anyone know if there is a list of fully compatible phones available? Thanks in advance for any help.
Not at work at the moment so can't look it up but your local main dealer can give you a list of compatible phones free of charge. Have heard of some problems with Nokia phones but not specifically the N73 normally just the older models.
Do you want a cradle to hardwire your phone or just to hold it whilst in the car?

Yep, if you have a compatible phone your phonebook will appear on your MMI and you can select via the steering wheel. Otherwise you can manually input your numbers via the MMI (if you have a few spare hours to kill!)
Its only so complicated because of the number of variations of in car entertainment options and the number of phones on the market. Just be thankful you don't have an A8! Sony phones seem to work better for some reason. Best to check in with your dealer and get the master tech to give you the lowdown.

The N73 does connect, but won't show your phonebook. It also has a habit of "hanging" the call in the car. The phone drops it OK, but the car still thinks it's on a call. This results in the need to disconnect the battery for 10 mins to reset things, or the battery goes flat - as I found out.
The local dealer will have a list of compatible phones. Get them to fax/email it over to you.

I've got an iPhone one if that's any help.
Thanks, I was surprised to see the iPhone on the list as most of the other phones seem to have been obsolete for years. I need to go to a phone shop and compare models, I have had Nokia phones for years but the ones on the list (even the April 08 list) are all really old, even the old faithful 6310i is there, this time I had pretty much decided to go for a Sony but the only current model is a K610i which I don't really fancy. I think I might have to get a phone for the car and a separate phone for general use, hey ho. I wonder if I could get two SIM cards with the same number...

My A6 had this problem, it was a faulty phone unit, now replaced under warranty. Took me a year to work out it was the car not the phone. Go and make a fuss cos all bluetooth phones should works as bluetooth stacks are basically the same. Get them to try and pair your phone with several diff cars. The local dealer will have a list of compatible phones. Get them to fax/email it over to you.

The TT-S does not have MMI.
However w compatible mobile handset which importantly has to have "SAP" - Sim Access Profile - will be able to list its phone book in the DIS (driver information system or trip computer) so long as the vehicle has a multi function steering wheel with a "MODE" button (which the TT-S has as standard.
Tne issue is that Nokia did not build SAP into the N73 so the simple cure is get a new handset.
Your local Audi dealer will be able to give you a print out dated Feb 08 with compatible Bluetooth handsets, although this will not neccessarily match the list of cradles as not all Bluetooth compatible handsets have a cradle option as the Bluetooth is so good. I don't use a cradle at all and my handset is 100% listing the phone book.

Hi all, I just came accross this discussion and thought you may be able to help me. I have just recently bought an a3 and it had the gen 2 already installed with the chunky bit on the dash. My phones work fine with the bluetooth function for basic calls etc but I was wondering if anyone knew of a simple universal attachment to fit onto the dash bit; simply to act as an adjustable phone holder (to make some use of it) as i use a number of phones and am not really interested in commiting to one dock for a specific phone.
Any response appreciated,
Thanks.
