Passat estate wiper/alarm fault
Discussion
Hi, I own a 2002 VW passat estate TDI 100, I did have a water leak in the cab which I sealed the pollen filter housing and fixed, but recently the alarm kept going off, it said the tailgate was open all the time when it was shut, that stopped when the rear wiper came on and stayed on, I have removed the wiper fuse now, does anyone know if these are on a related circuit or have heard of this before??
As said, sounds like a variant of the golf washer problem.
If its definatley not that, remove the passenger side kick panel at the bottom of the A post, there are a lot of wiring harness plugs there, check for water ingress, from memory the grey plug usually suffers after a water leak

Sounds like water has got to the 'convenience module'.
There is an ecu in the passenger footwell. Sensible place to put it eh? It controls all the internal lights/alarm/wash/wipe, etc.
The fact that you'e had the pollen filter leak is a dead giveaway. If the unit will dry ok then fine. If not there are loads of variants - make sure you get the right one - as I understand it diff variants (last letter on the part no) are coded for diff levels of functionality. I think they come in at £250 ish.

Same thing happened to me. Rip up the carpet and get drying with a hair dryer. Mine was soaked - dried it out and now it's fine. IIRC VW sell a modified pollen filter housing to prevent the cheerful incident re-occuring. HTHThere is an ecu in the passenger footwell. Sensible place to put it eh? Found the carpet still to be wet and condensation under it, took out the module and appeared dry, took it in the house for a bit then refitted it but out of the box as I still have the carpet up drying and checking for further water ingress. Ran the car, rear speakers were back on which were also off before, tailgate open warning doesnt work at all now and outside temp reads -30 ish, oh and rear wiper still runs non stop but the washer is fine. Not brill, my cars only usually play up when I decide to sell them and I'm keeping this one. So does this module have some form of control over all the systems where I have faults?? any help
