S3 intermittent throttle response
Discussion
Hi
I am posting this on behalf of a mate who has just bought a V reg S3 (210hp). His temp gauge seems to be constantly at 60 degrees only going to 90 degrees (normal temp) when driving in town. Could this be connected to the fact that on occasions when he puts his foot down in any gear there is no response. he then takes his foot off the gas and then puts his foot down again at which point the car responds as expected.
He only brought this last week so is understandably a bit concerned. the car has only done 70,000 miles and has full Audi service history.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

To get to exactly what's causing the probelm you need to get the car scanned using a diagnostic program such as vag.com as this will enable you to see the error codes stored on the car's ecu
dealers will normally charge you 50 quid for this "service" so have a look here

It's an audi website i'm a member of and I've started a thread to help other owners with their problems free of charge.

hi there, have put a coolant temp sensor on it, ? cheapest place to start.
Can rule out water pump, temp gauge will drop to normal when at idle, the impellars break off.
Lack of power, they do have a boost valve which are prone to sticking giving a similar concern, follow the air intake hose back from the air filter and it,s there you can not miss it, the top is the size of a can of pop.
Also, if youre car has got codes in for the lambda probe, don,t just change it, this is only the messenger and will store faults in the ECU if there are any air leaks, There is a lot of of intake hoses near the dipstick tube which are prone to splitting, they are a pain to get to, but are usually the cure. (Just under the intake manifold.)
regards Al.
