Happy New Year to my fellow PH'ers

Was wondering if anyone has any ideas or tips on how to get the 'left side' rear fog light working on a MkIV golf as VW leave it as a blank. Is it a simple case of running a wire over from the other or is there a kit available?? Has anyone else tried it?

Help/ideas/info much appreciated!

Cheers

Legal requirement is for one. Reasoning is that you have 2 then it can potentially cause confusion to other drivers between brake lights. Very distracting to have 1 on accidentally too, let alone 2.

Thanks for that, but then if legally cars should have one, why is it that most manufacturer's install two on most newer cars??Legally you should have one so that you don't get people driving around with none!! Most recently all the vehicles I have seen have two working rear fog's?? Confusing?? I wasn't aware on a law stating cars to only have one rear fog?

I completely agree with you about the 'mistaking for brake lights' and 'dazzling', but when used in the correct conditions I would rather be more visable.

As an ex police officer I do get very annoyed when I am behind someone who has put on their rear fogs when they don't need it and it makes driving behind them more hazardous.

I agree and 'correct conditions' is your key phrase! So many people leave them on, or put them on at the slightest hint of mist. Very few people realise that one of the best uses for them is on the motorway in severe rain spray conditions when normal lights are next to useless.

Going back to the original post I did mine, and from memory I think you just need to put a bulb in it and run a wire across.

p.s. legal stuff sounds like nonsense. 2 bulbs is safer...what if one blows during a journey?, and I have three brake lights incl. the high level one so the change in pattern on braking should be obvious to numpties behind.

Looking in to this, the only requirement legally is 1 rear fog light on the O/S (drivers). 2 working fogs are fine but if the bulb goes on the drivers side and the passenger still works then this is illegal!!!
I agree that 2 are better for the reasons discussed.
