All,

My 1st Post :

I own an Audi S4 and need my first two tyres replacing, I was going to purchase the Good Year Eagle GS-D3 (235/40 Y18's) however, they do not make this tyre anymore and are difficult to get hold of? Does anyone have any recommendation as to what tyres they use or any advise on which tyres I should get?

Thanks in advance.

Regards Danny

According ro Audi on Quattro cars it is important that the same tread patterns and compounds are used on 4 wheels to prevent damage to diffs and drivetrain. You may void a warranty if you dont have 4 the same tyres on all 4 corners.

On my A6 Quattro I am using dunlop SP9000 255/35 19 XL. Theses are a good tyre, not sure if you wopuld need the XL version for a RS4. XL stands for extra load. I also use these tyres on my weekend toy. Grip is good wet and dry, but they are a little noisieyr than the orignal perelli Pzero Rosso's.

Just make sure you get the 95Y extra load tyre as many places will try and sell you the 93Y which is not extra load. The OEM tyres were the Conti SC2 or Michelin PS2s.

TBH I would go with the michelin myself. OEM tyre and all and they are really good in terms of longevity.

+1 best around imo, also some of the most expensive.... damn.

my dad has falkens on his which seem very good too and are much cheaper than michelins.

I got a puncture a few weeks ago and had to have 4 new tyres, I ended up going for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric (not the GSD3) because I got 4 for £600 which was about £500 less than Audi wanted to charge me for the Conti's.

They seem a very good tyre, can't really comment on wear rate yet though.

Well i have michelins on my a4 tractor 16 inch iirc and i pay +- £80 per corner fitted plus balancing as apposed to around 100+ a corner at most places.

Just replaced both fronts today and got a puncture repaired bill came to 180. Glad of the saving tbh as i go through a front set every few months.

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 XL
Only way to go on a s4!

U will need Extra Load + decent rubber to get the full potential from s4 & the enjoyment
Don't get people who spend on a V8 and don't buy the rubber to match

Another vote for Goodyear F1's here. Excellent handling and less road noise than the OEM tyres IMHO

Yes, thus the Eagle F1's, they too are an Extra Load and they out perform the Pilot Spots in the Dry and leave them for dead when the road gets wet (might be handy in the UK) thus giving the S4 even more potential and they cost a lot less. You'd be a sucker or very brand loyal to purchase anything else in my opinion/every other tyre test I've read.

Review that might be interesting for the OP

As always there is a catch 22. The goodyear may be a better all round tyre BUT you will replace it sooner than the mitchelin in all likelihood as iirc my dad had a set on his bm and they didnt last anywhere near as long as whichever tyre he replaced.

Course they may have improved im no expert i stick to michelins as they are a decent tyre and seem to out last others which is more important to me as i change tyres on average every 4-6months.

Yep, and that's just one site's opinion which indicates very marginal results rolleyes
Wait til replacement time. Will b a lot sooner than Pilot's and the tyre pretty unsafe by then rofl

Marginal results maybe, but if I read your post right, you seemed to be suggesting the PS2's were a 'much' better tyre than the F1's and that I was a cheap skate - based on how much you'd had to spend and not through any kind of personal experience/actual facts. I'm merely pointing out that you Sir are miss-informed.

I changed mine for Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas, never looked back. In the wet, you can drive like it's dry. they are freakishly good.
