my dad has one, it is a lovely car, but though still in warranty has a slight leak between the roof and the driver side window, he loves it in every way but i imagine if not in warranty a problem like this could turn expensive.
its very juicy and you have to replace 4 tyres at a time which is not cheap.
grips and goes amazingly and is just a lovely car all round. the v8 sounds fantastic too.
only other problem he has has is the coil packs. his is a late 2006 if that helps at all.
how much are you looking to spend?

The issue of having to replace all tyres at once is not as bad as it sounds as the rears do not wear appreciably less than the fronts apart from the fact that the fronts wear the insides badly on all S4's but more so on the Cabs. B6 or B7 is fine, just make sure that the aux radiators on the B6 have been changed.
Overall, good value summer cruising cars which do a reasonable job all year round if you insist but they are not top notch in the handling game. I replaced mine with the new shape 3.2 TT Roadster (with Magnetic Ride) and the TT will outdrive the S4 on any windy road.

inside edges on my dads have never worn.Overall, good value summer cruising cars which do a reasonable job all year round if you insist but they are not top notch in the handling game. you really think a 250 bhp tt is faster than a 340bhp s4?
maybe it is if the road gets really twisty but the tt i drove felt nowhere near as quick.
The S4 Cab has less than 10% more power to weight than the TT so it will pull away on a long straight but not by much. As for handling, the S4 Cab rolls a great deal and weighs about 1850kg. The TT - if it has magnetic ride - can corner very flat and carries around 400kg less weight. The S4 Cab is not a bad car (I would recommend it) but it is not a car for pushing on.
On tyre wear, I have owned one S4 Cab and two Avants and they all have worn the inside fronts badly - I must be cornering quickly!

maybe thats it, my dad is quite and easy driver on the corners. On tyre wear, I have owned one S4 Cab and two Avants and they all have worn the inside fronts badly - I must be corning quickly!
to be honest though i was quite suprised how the s4 didnt feel as heavy as it is.

My S4 only ever wears the tyres evenly, even front to back wear at pretty much the same rate.
Sounds like you had either bad toe out or knackered bushes.
Can't comment on the Cab, but the Saloon is a fantastic car. Its no TVR (I had the Cerbera for weekend fun) but as an every day car there isn't much can beat its all round ability.
The only car I will replace the S4 with is a C5 RS6, more pace with more space.

The s4 is one of the reasons I really want fuel prices to rise again and the recssion to really bite so I can sell my a4 tractor and replace it with an s4 as a worhorse. Bills will be fairly similar in maintenance only issue will be fuel but company pays that so i dont mind and if petrol goes up to previous levels or even higher I will lpg it.

I would put up with a bit of understeer and heavy weight for that noise! Simply awesome! (almost Corvette like!)
Drove this one yesterday:

The sound it made with the Powerflow exhaust was amazing, more like a Cobra or a TVR.

My S4 saloon went down to the threads on the inside of the front tyres in under 9K miles from new. Audi paid for a full alignment check and I seem to remember an incredibly minor adjustment was made to the toe in/out.On tyre wear, I have owned one S4 Cab and two Avants and they all have worn the inside fronts badly - I must be cornering quickly!

Put new tyres on the front and the original rears did 17K. Since then the fronts have managed 15k+ miles with no problems.

Did you drive it with a view to buying it or just for the fun. Im looking for one similar at the moment and would welcome your feedback on this particular one.
The car drove really nicely but it was the sound of the V8 that really impressed. RS-4 badges and wheels suited the nature of the thing although some might say it shouldnt have the badges - call me a poser but I quite liked them. Levels looked fine to me, it must be the angle of the photo.

Fair enough but to anyone who knows that they didnt make an rs4 version when they see it they will simply think the same as me which is how sad and pathetic. He aspires to own an rs4 but could only afford an s4.Saw an a4 tdi which had been debadged and had merely an S badge on the back and silver mirrors. Pathetic.
