S4 B8 Remap and other questions!
Discussion
So, I'm already bored with my A4 Tdi 2.0. I swapped her out for my 3.2 DSG TT as I have 2 kids that were developing rickets from having their knees jammed against the back seats in the TT.
So I love the extra space in the A4 estate, but I've been having problems with the DPF (missus uses it for a lot of school runs etc, so it's not regenerating properly).
To top all this off, THE REAR VIEW MIRROR FELL OFF the other day, so I thought RIGHT, I'm getting a new one.
Would love a new RS4 but they're £50k+ which isn't happening.
Could afford an RS5 but I need an estate (I've got a dog, and use the car for business trips sometimes).
Was going to get an S4 estate (B8) but I knew I'd always have this feeling that I could have something faster.
Then I read about how responsive S4 B8s are to tuning / remapping.
Has anyone got anyone had a remap done to theirs? I suppose I'd have a budget of approx £2k for tuning works. Would I get above 450bhp for this? Do they all come with "switches" to turn them off in case of an accident / warranty work?
Finally before I buy the car, am I right in saying there are two variants of the B8? ie, 1st gen and 2nd gen? When was the 2nd gen brought in and what are the improvements?
Cheers!!!

Mine has a manual gearbox, Quattro sports diff, drive select and dynamic steering.
The dynamic steering is a bit meh but generally the sports diff and drive select packages came with the steering.
Quattro sports diff is a must have but difficult to find cars with it fitted.
There is a massive thread on here all about the S4.

Just fess up and pay a bit more for insurance

They're pretty docile if you want them to be, but the gearbox remap is recommended with a stage 2 tune from MRC and doesn't add much to the price.
Vast majority are s-tronic so make sure it's had the box service done at 40k, or before, if you're looking at one with those kind of miles.
The facelift cars came in around 2012 and can be spotted in pics easily by the swap from round to rectangular front fogs and a different MMI screen and font on the cliamate controls, plus minor buttons on the centre console change style.
Ones with ADI (Audi Drive Select) are pretty rare, so get good at spotting the button design changes (pre-facelift there's 2 buttons and you loop through the various options available highlighted above the buttons, facelift has 1 button to cycle through the modes on the right side of the centre console)
Be prepared to be open minded on spec - decide on a body style, gearbox and ideal toys and see what you can find. High spec cars do not hang around. Poor spec cars can be on the market for months!
We ended up with an S5 Sportback but were open to S4 saloon or Avant as well
