B5 RS4 or C5 RS6?
Discussion
Hi guys
In the not too distant future I am going to purchase one of the above.
I have always had my heart set on an RS6, but after looking on here and at rs246.com there seems to be quite a few instances where repair bills for thousands can creep up.
After championing the car for so long to my girlfriend it would be a shame if this were to occur and sour our relationship (and the relationship with the car).
Now, if I were to get one with a warranty and with the DRC already changed this should mitigate any costly problems.
Now, I have also thought about the B5 RS4 as an alternative. I have driven one and liked it, although it is a bit older, smaller and a manual (I prefer the laid back nature of driving the auto RS6). However, the RS4 is also rarer so could be better at retaining its value......
I could be swayed towards the RS4 if the repair costs were likely to be cheaper. Are there any major issues that could crop up with the RS4 that could cost loads?
So - to sum up - I prefer the RS6 but would maybe go for an RS4 if it is likely to cost less to run (fuel etc. isn't an issue).
Cheers!

Hi EE, think you need to post this question up on rs.246.com. The tyresmoke boys are also very helpful with questions like this. Can only speak as an ex-C5 owner and can say that the 6 months I had with the car were fantastic! Just get one quick whilst there are a few left kicking around the dealer-network with full warranties!
there can be issues with the 2.7tt unit as well. Again Golich wrote a buyers guide for that particular unit, i know he had a B5 S4 and then an B5 RS4 now on a B7 RS4. Personally i prefer the RS6 as well but have heard some horror stories on the suspension setup.
The B5 RS6 does it for me i like the relaxed stupidity of it. if i was going smaller i would go for an RS2 or a B7 RS4.
