mk2 golf 4x4 conversion

hi, can anyone out there give me any idea on how i can do a conversion on a mk2 golf 2 door to make it into a four wheel drive. i was told i could use the running gear from a syncro. is this right???? is there a kit that can be bought to do a conversion like this??? can anyone help.....please.
