Hi, I've bought an 98 S4 and will need to change the ECU soon to a chipped unit, and possibly code another key. I'm an ex Audi technician and have Vag-com so doing the job isn't a problem but I will need the 7 digit immobliser code from the dealer. I have proof of ownership and ID, but I believe the stealers won't give this information out... any ideas where I can get this information? Any ideas what the legal situation is, ie are the dealers breaking the law by witholding this information? I don't mind if there is a small charge for it, but as you can appreciate I don't want to pay silly money for something I can do myself. Any help appreciated.

Apparently all pre 2000 cars had the tag with the security code but I didn't manage to get it when I bought the car. I thought it was illegal for the dealers to withold the info? Are there any dealers out there who will provide this for a small charge? As I said I have proof of ID and ownership.

As far as I can remember the flip keys are easy to open up. Can you post a link to the SKC reader? Mike

Sorry.. I was thinking of another key when I said they were easy to open...!
Just bought a Vag-Tacho off ebay. £54. Hope it works, and if so should be a damn sight cheaper than sending the car to the stealers. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the advice/replies. Mike

Received the Vag-tacho... and it won't connect to my cars where Vag-com will. It shows an error message saying 'K-line short to ground, but it obviously isn't due to vag-com working ok. Still trying to contact the guy from ebay...................
