MK4 Golf GTI - Engine Steam !!!
Discussion
hi
i have just joined the forum....great to be here !
i have been checking the engine oil levels after using my car (mk4 golf gti 1.8 150bhp 2003 reg) and i can see some steam coming out of it when i open the oil cap.
also i have been regularly checking the oil levels and the oil at the dipstick is clean i mean its not dark or with any cr*p like that etc..
now is this steam coming out is normal or is this a problem with the engine???
thanks in advance for your replies.....
cheers

From the title of your post, you mentioned "STEAM", which is very basically made from water. If you know what is actually coming from your engine and it definitely is oil, then its not steam.
Then stand-easy, its not problem
sorry i couldnt find the right word, i guess its vapour not steam. anyway if its engine damage how can one find out ? Then stand-easy, its not problem

I dont think its owt to worry about. If taking off the oil cap when the engine is hot the oil normally has a bit of heat rising.
Does the temp gauge sit at 90 degrees?
