buying Mk2 Golf GTi 16v

Any Golf nutters please advise.

I'm looking at buying a late Mk2 16v as a 2nd motor. I have £1500 and looking around it should get a pretty decent one. Not mint.
I had one (f-reg) 8 yrs ago and loved it. It had 162K with full service and nothing went wrong so looking for another.
What are some of the major things to avoid?
