140ps and 170ps TDI engines difference

Are the differences between these engines purely down to an engine map? i.e would it be possible to get a good tuner get the 170 ps output from a 140 ps engine without affecting reliability, driveability etc. Or are do the engines have mechanichal differences? As the 170 ps version seems to be a fair bit faster than the 140 ps version.

Thanks guys for that very helpful. Looking through the post have to ask is 7 secs to 60 a tad optimistic for the 170?

It seems that the way forward with these turbocharged VAG units is chipping them! I'm suprised more people dont chip their cars

Regarding the post asking which engine I'm referring to I dont know the engines codes but they're the latest engines available if that helps.
