My car has now down 50k miles, and its been juddering a bit when setting off for the last few weeks. This happens first thing in the morning and becomes consistent after the car has been driven for a while, quite violent at times but if I rev it enough it won't happen. Is this a sign that the clutch is going?

What's your car mate?
Mine is also jerky (revs bounce) when you come on and off the accelerator and the gear stick moves in whatever gear it is (never did that before)

We need the help of Dr G and Tame Tech........
I read about the deposit thing on the Porsche forum and the abuse cleared it, could abuse mean quick starts and fast shifts?

Mine is a petrol fsi. Can you get a dual mass flywheel on a non diesel? The clutch biting point also feels a little higher today, but not much judder.

Golf Mk5 2004 1.4FSI with 50k on clock (full vw service history).
Does it sound right that the clutch could be going about now?
Thanks

Its a petrol, not a very powerful one either lol. Do petrols have dual mass flywheels?
I shall try the pulling at 20 in 5th gear anyway.

If it's on its way out I really dont want to push it, but then again I don't know what the problem is. I'm assuming its going as the car is at 50k miles and the biting point just got higher yesterday. Is 50k miles when a clutch goes? I read on UKMKIV's that some people had their clutch go really early under warranty and it was a common fault. But I'm well out of the warranty and I think this maybe wear and tear.

Thanks for that Olly, most of my driving is town driving but I do occasionally do long motorway runs. I don't drive a lot, probably 9k miles in the last year. The biting point is definitaly higher, but it's not extremely high. I shall just take it to VW and get it checked out.

Thanks for that help tame tech. I'll try and go get it looked at tomorow.
I'm looking to order it online and get a local specialist to fit it.

is that all I will need? There are cheaper options, is sachs a good manufacturer? Should I go for the cheaper option as it's only a 1.4?

The car feels quite good now but for peace of mind I want to buy it and keep th clutch kit on the side. Is sachs a lot better than LUK because sachs is double the price. How much would a vw independant charge for fitting? I'm not going to ask how much the stealers will charge.

Thanks tame tech

Sorry my fault, the LUK is a full clutch kit at £98, the Sachs one is also a full clutch kit at £138. Is the price difference justifiable? Will I feel the difference on a 1.4?
