Mk5 Golf GTI / Leon Cupra real life MPG's / running costs

Got a bit of an Itch to get a new car at the moment, really like the GTi's / Cupra's so wanting to know what sort of running costs/mpg I could expect from these.

I am currently running a Fabia VRS which will do 45-50mpg on my current commute (approx 135 miles (round trip) of motorway driving)

I am getting a little bored of diesel so just working out how the above will compare, most my driving is business mileage so I make recovery from it.

Could I expect 35-40mpg average whilst still having a bit of fun?
