After passing this milestone mileage, I thought I'd share my cost of ownership with PH.

My B7 RS4 was purchased in February 2009.
It is a July 2006 example and had only 6,300 miles on the clock.
Here's a photo of it, the day I picked her up. With the conditions as they were, it was an interesting introduction 400+bhp motoring!

FUEL

She now has a little over 16,350 miles, having driven 10,000 miles in 7 months.
Expenditure so far, has (pretty much) been fuel only!
The car has averaged around 18.75MPG per tank, running approximately 260 miles per 63 litre tank.
I've only ever used Shell V Power (or BP equivalent if essential) at an average of 107.9p per litre.
That works out to an approximate expeniture of £2,615 in the first 7 months on ownership.

MECHANICAL ITEMS

In April and May, I took the car to the Snetterton Race Circuit twice, so by June, the car required 2 new front brake pads and 4 new tyres - as far as I know these were the original items, too!
Brake pads from Audi were £297.65 fully fitted.
Tyres were supplied by my local STS Holborn at a cost of £850, fitted.

I've heard these cars burn oil - mine has required around 5 litres in the mileage covered - it was purchased from Halfords at a cost of £45.

The car sailed through it's first ever MOT in July, I was pleasently surprised to find that Audi are currently running a deal of FREE MOTs!

The car was just serviced prior to purchase, so a service isn't due for another 8,000 miles, according to the on board computer.
I have taken the car to my local Audi Dealer to get a few recall items completed, and recently it went in for the Battery Mounting recall - all under warrenty and received a courtesy car.
My car was returned in a wonderfully clean condition each time.

She has been extremely reliable, thus far, and has had only one problem - a "creaking", "whining" type noise from the front suspension. The front curved suspension arm was replaced under warranty.

NON-ESSENTIAL EXPENDITURE

I also clipped an alloy on a curb, so a local repair was undertaken at my Audi Dealer, costing £60

Two weeks into ownership, a stone chipped the paint dented my bonnet, so a trip to the bodyshop was arranged for March. It cost £763.14, which included some Ventureshield plastic to guard the new paint from stone chips.

In April, a TRACKER system was fitted at a cost of £345.

TOTALS

In 7 months, I've spent £2,360.79 on the car PLUS £2,615 on fuel.
Total expenditure 4,975.79.
That works out to around £710.83 per month which isn't bad for 10,000 miles in a sports saloon! It's certainly cheaper than my old Merc nuts

WHAT's NEXT?

The car was supplied with 6 months Tax, so that will be the next major expenditure, costing £400 per year.
Also, one alloy wheel is flaking where a poor refurb was previously untaken - this will cost just shy of £100.
Now the car is out of warrenty, I've been looking in to modifying the engine with a REVO Technik software upgrade. Stage 2 will set me back £865 including an exhaust biggrin driving

After 10,000 miles, I still adore my Audi. She brings a smile to my face every time I drive her.
I've had nothing but a supreme service from my Audi Dealer.
Also, after this time and mileage, I think she still looks pretty good! This photo was taken on Sunday 6th Spetember smile

So far, so good! thumbup

I bet the car was ace to drive in the snow. Does yours turn heads Darren or does it go under the radar as an A4?
Yes it was rather interesting in the snow! Especially as I had come from a 220bhp, RWD, automatic Mercedes!

As for turning heads, it seems to turn a fair few. It appears to be petrol heads, and the VAG group who really know what it is, while some people I think hear the exhaust and see a bright blue car!

Touch wood, it's never had any "wrong" attention, though smile

Good to see it being used. There's too many RS4s doing 3k a year for my liking wink
However, it means someone like me can come along and pick up a bargin, and put on some "proper" mileage hehe

Many thanks for the feedback smile

Looking for a black Avant? I know it's the part exchange route, but what about this example at an Audi Dealer?

Yea; he was with me in the LCR... Are you going on Thursday at all?
Small world, eh?!
How are the brakes holding up on your Cupra wink

Sadly not, as the car needs to be clean and shiney for Friday - I received an email from EVO magasine who wish to take pictures of my car smile

Strange you should mention the brakes - they are now 2-piece 330mm rotors with ds2500 pads (still using the standard brembo 4-pots) but with uprated fluid + ducting! They survived 11 laps of punishment around the Nurburgring - however on arrival at Dunkirk one of my pads disintegrated! (cheap Mintex pads on at the time!)
Are you chaps local to Snet? Do you happen to know the 2 guys that were driving GT3s that day?
I'll have to pass that brake information on to my friend who had that silver Cupra R - I'm not sure if you remember him, but he came to spectate.

Yup, we're only 20 minutes from the track thumbup
Was that the yellow GT3 and the orange GT3 RS? They were astonishing cars, but I never had the opportunity to chat with the owners frown

MORE RECENT COSTS

I've purchased my 12 months Tax at £400.
I purchased some more oil. Three litres cost £45 at Audi (bought from there for ease, as I was close by). I top up with just under 2 litres, so have one spare.

I popped to Audi for them to check strange clicking noise coming from the front of the car last night.
Unfortunately the noise ceased this morning, before I got to the dealer.
The check cost £86.25, but I'm not going too concerned about price vs. safety!
Nothing wrong was found, although I've also been told that I'll be requiring new discs before too long. I've been told these, plus pads, will be around the £1,000. Hopefully, I can get away with discs only, though - or will they replace pads as a matter of course?

Also, I'm about to enjoy the car even more, with a trip to Switzerland ( for a PistonHeads Run organised by my brother), the Black Forest in Southern Germany and the Nurburgring, ! bounce

darren, did you mean to write "I put 2 litres in and I'm left with 1 litre"?

Just seems a bit scary to leave it till you need to put 2 litres in. I appreciate they hold 9 litres, but when mine (S4, not RS4) is getting low on the stick, I can normally get it back to mid mark with around 300 ml.
You must be off the stick when you have to put 2 litres in?

Great car by the way, saw you in it a couple of weeks ago at the bottom of Grapes hill going round Halfords roundabout early one morning.
Spotted! paperbaghehe

I was mid-way through an Airport run to Gatwick when the light came on, saying I needed to top up. The oil level wasn't off the bottom, although it was dead on the minimum.
And yup, just under 2 litres went in to top it up to maximum, and I've made sure I've got one litre spare smile

MANY MANY thanks for that Miles - they are superb photos!
I'll be showing that link to my brother and Dad biggrin

Yup, we had also hired the old M3 track-prepped car for the day - now that was a fantastic track weapon; insanely grippy through the corners!

It's not including insurance, and I'm fairly certain the car hasn't depreciated a penny when comparing my example to those f=currently for sale smile

I don't find the prices bad compared to that I was paying my old Merc - unfortunately a fair bit seemed to go wrong.
Also for something that has genuine sports car performance, it doesn't seem bad at all biggrin
