Steve Heath bonnet stay
Discussion
I have been contemplating having similar manufactured for my Griffs and wondered what sort of interest there was from other Griff owners, on the basis that the more I get manufactured the lower will be the price. Despite the discussion on the matter, I was planning to rosejoint the stay from the centre of the bonnet.
Bear in mind this is early days, I haven't perfected a design and I haven't found someone to do the work (although I have someone in mind) but if anyone else is interested or wants to take a lead on this then let me know and it might motivate me to get the process started.

Hi,
I have just bought one of these on Ebay.
Does anyone have a photo of where it mounts too? Or any instructions?
I know its probably quite obvious but I just dont want to make a hash of it.
Thanks Guys.
This is even more useful and you don't get the BS around it discussing whether it is worth the money or notI have just bought one of these on Ebay.

Would be best to hinge from the centre and also supported from the centre and not the side. The front crossmember would be the ideal place to mount a holder, just need something to put a bar into to support the bonnet - it would be a lot more stable than the standard arrangement.Bear in mind this is early days, I haven't perfected a design and I haven't found someone to do the work (although I have someone in mind) but if anyone else is interested or wants to take a lead on this then let me know and it might motivate me to get the process started.

Sounds like there is probably a quorum. Currently in Kazakhstan so not in front of my Griffs but back home on Friday.
My initial thoughts were to replace the horizontal tube that holds the bonnet rollers and put a rose joint in the centre, then put the stay-hole in the same place as the original, however it is a good thought putting a completely new stay-hole on the front cross-member. Not being in front of the car, I wonder whether that will make the bonnet stay too long to hook back under the bonnet? I will check that when I get home. Stay will have to be clamped on cross-member as I don't think I want to drill the cross-member to hold the stay-hole - any thoughts or preferences?

Interesting idea, how does that work? Presumably the rose joint allows the stay to bend back on itself but I can't picture how. Photo would be great. Doesn't that limit the length of the stay?
That's right, the strut is a similar length to the cross brace. I'll take a picture in a while.Edited by RichB on Wednesday 7th August 11:57
