Yep, after sitting in an Elise for a few moments (and having to unscrew my legs to get out) the Griff seemed like an Aston in comparison. Like carpet, comfy seats, leather etc!

Griff better front chim better rear (series 2 chim) better front, you need to glue the front and back together 500's are the same underneath - just a much bigger boot on Chimera.

Good summary Jellison! Now we just need to find someone who likes things the other way round and we could have a deal... chainsaw and gaffertape?

...you're right gerjo there's no real battle they're great cars in their own right. It's just that having spoken to a few salesmen they always seem to bang on about how tricksy the Griff is compared to Chim. Why!?
They're so similar aren't they ? I believe the chim is a little heavier so , ok it might feel a little less jittery but just how different are they to drive ?
Why has the Griff got that reputation over the Chim ?

Because the early model Griffiths were a lot less compromising compared to the more modern models. This coupled with no PAS on an early Griff makes for a very 'committed' ride.

There is a tendancy in life for those in the minority to shout the loudest. There's loads of contented Chimaera drivers who don't feel the need to shout it's praises. Afterall, they could have bought a Griff if they really wanted one. No one forced them to buy the Chimaera over a Griff, unless indeed there is a total lack of supply.

what I meant was: what battle? Griffith of course!!

seriously: each has it's own character. When I set out to buy my first TVR, I was looking for a Chim. However, after seeing both cars side to side it was Griff for me and I never looked back. Still the Chim is a fantastic car, it's up to personal taste. I like my steaks raw!

They are both great cars in their own right of course but side by side the Chimp goes limp

Chimps are oversupplied in relative terms compared to the Griff. I personally feel the Chimp is an attempt to compromise the Griff and to appeal to a wider audience. This, imo , goes against the TVR grain in very principle.

Ohh decent boot, better for your golf clubs or shopping.

Pah, I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! And your car is less attractive when compared to the lovely Griffith.

so to summarise....Chimaera is a beauty of a car in the classic British sports tourer style, the Griffith is purity of function and form...not so much a rare steak as a Deer just before it gets nailed

Doesn't (John) Deer make tractors, though? Have you just shot your own argument in the hoof?

To summarise a different way: All TVRs are brilliant; all TVRs are equal.....

...it's just that Griffs are more equal than Chimaeras
