Sigh...

Weekend plans thrown in the bin.
1st seller not sure if he wants to sell but happy for me to drive 2 hours to have a look at his car and then he may or may not want to sell it.
2nd seller just deemed to tell me he has received the deposit from another buyer he had already agreed to sell the car to but was happy to keep me tagging along on the off chance it fell through.

I have however put a cheeky offer in for another Griff that would be more of a restoration project, but I'm not holding out too much hope on that but you never know.

Anyway.. as I have some time away from the trouble and strife I'm going to go back to Kerridges and drive a Chim, T350 and a Nobel partly out of curiosity but mainly out of spite against all Griffith owners.

If you dont hear from me again you know what happened
Go and drive a sorted Tamora, and you wont want anything else !

A work colleague wanted a Griff and he test drove plenty.

The first Tamora he drove, he bought, and using his words ...."the performance and especially the handling were in a different class"

Very rare now and underpriced compared to all the other T-Cars.

Here you go

That was the point I was highlighting. A fully restored car in my eyes includes taking apart and checking the engine and gearbox even if it’s low mileage otherwise it’s basically a body off clean chassis, body back, new paint and new interior.
For these prices personally I think a privately bought car with a few mods done and compromise on the exterior colour with one that matches/compliments it’s interior. The money saved could be used on specific upgrades the new owner wants.
My own car I bought was complete with stone chipped front. I was young and wanted to use it rather than buy a show car. No regrets. It has some very nice chassis and engine mods and I’m still proud to own it. smile
Given a whole new car was £30k plus when new, even with a second hand base car I don't think you can expect a car that's fully stripped including engine and interior , refinished with associated new parts for all consumables for £30k at today's prices. The real cost of a fully restored car is probably closer to £50k if you want gearbox , diff, engine all refurbed fully, plus new interior and paint.

Yes .................. i have to agree in a way.

The front looks a bit like a frogeye sprite, and at the rear, the tea ray on the back is a big no no for me.

But..........................these things do eventually seem insignificant once you drive one !

I was, of course, only joking. I've not driven a Tam but have driven a Sagaris so I know the S6 engine is a good one. I gather the Tamora handles well having done a track day with Neill Anderson - him in the, then soon to be released, Tamora and me in my Griff.

There was a nice looking dark blue one for sale at Tony Gilbert cars for some time, circa 28k...

Didn't go and look at that one but might be worth a look if still available.

I looked at 6 other Griff's before buying my 500.

You are right that you need to spend 25-30 to get a good one now, in my opinion.

As for the engine bay, some will prefer "original and unmolested"

I like to see this, but not if hoses etc have degraded.

What I can't personally stand is a loadof naff blue silicone hoses and polished chrome bits. Yuck.

Mine is very original under the bonnet, but as the hoses and joiners are getting a bit old I'm going to replace with black silicone hoses as a set, and some other small bits and pieces. Never really liked that concertina air intake hose, so replaced that with the ACT one.

For me it's about making some subtle mods/maintenance that "look" at home and or are in keeping with the car.

Hi folks...

Weather stopped play but a few interesting private sales have come to light.

Any experience of this upgrade/rebuild?

It would be nice to be able to see before and after Dyno plot if anybody has one.

Cheers
Richard

That's the very well known upgrade package from what was known as TVR Power, several people on here have this. I imagine if you search for Taraka I'm sure you'll find loads of threads and hours of reading. smile

Long story, eventually had the car back rebuilt again but not running, ie no start. Blitz racing came to my house and got it running in 5 mins. Lost interest since then.

My Griff has the taraka upgrade. I bought it like in 2004. The previous owner had the work done 6 months prior to selling. Receipts galore. I’ve never driven a standard engined Griff so I can’t give a comparison, but I did have a friend with an apparently similar output Sierra cosworth. On a rolling start I left it like it wasn’t trying.
I’ve got some dyno graphs somewhere which vary on total bhp but torque is good and instant revs. To me the engine runs out of revs in each gear but on a damp road I can get the rear wheels spinning in all 5 gears. Fab car in my opinion smile

This is my Griff taraka. Picture is old taken when she looked perfect just before I got divorced, I actually found it posted in a different thread about wheels.
I fitted the wheels in the picture as the originals I think are rather naff looking.
I think the shape still looks stunning today as it did when first revealed. smile
