Maserati used the same basic diff although you will see it has a longer input shaft and an extension to the casing.
The diff in your photo looks like it doesn't have the "Sensitork" LSD, but I have never stripped one of these, so best to check it out yourself.

thanks all for the info- it looks like a standard GKN to me which is good..
I might have had a bit of a result. I thought the diff was knackered despite being rebuilt last winter because it had alot of slack hence the new diff and then taking the opportunity to have a lower ratio etc etc. but last night I pulled off the exhaust etc and found all 4 bolts between the prop and the diff are only finger tight which could account for the slack and clonk on take up of drive. may have just saved a lot of work. gonna bung it all back together and see if it solves it. if it does great and I will get the 3.77 rebuilt as a spare anyway (-:

Those bolts are awkward to tighten firmly.
I use a 9/16ths open ender with the outer sides of the jaws ground down for extra penetration around the nut and a ring spanner on the bolt head.
Makes life a little easier. on the nut.
HTH.
Phazed you star. I was using 14mm socket on the bolt head (the prop side)and it was slipping because the bloody toothed wheel for the speedo gets in the way - very awkward. will try a 9/16. I can get a ratchet spanner on the nut side (by the prop) so have good grip that side.I use a 9/16ths open ender with the outer sides of the jaws ground down for extra penetration around the nut and a ring spanner on the bolt head.

Ah, always remember that all the nuts and bolts on the Rover engine, (and the gearbox I believe) are all AF as are so many other fixings on these cars.
It is worth buying a good set of AF spanners and sockets, plenty available on eBay just make sure you source a good set.
Yup got some leverage on this - I reckon it's tight now". Now to buy some new spanners.. It is worth buying a good set of AF spanners and sockets, plenty available on eBay just make sure you source a good set.
