Looking to purchase my next car before the end of summer this year, I have thought long and hard what to go for as regards to reliability and usability day to day and running costs, I am undecided between Cerbera, Chimaera, Jaguar XF/S Type/XK, AMG CLS/CLK/S/E/C, Porsche 996, Kit car, with many more to choose from I just want best advice on Pros/cons of each really as never owned such cars, which would be most sensible I guess is the question I should be asking. Anyone with an opinion ??
Hmmm....it depends on what you want....I'd discount the jags and the mercs straight away....don't think that the 996 will be ultra reliable they have their own issues and cost just as much to sort when it's big. And the 996 is the spud of the 911's.
Best unbiased advice though is go drive a few ..... and what ever makes you smile the most....buy that!!

oi, I resemble that comment . Seriously though, I used my first 996 in 2010 as a daily. 23k miles in 13 months. No issues. Currently been using 996's as a daily since 2015 with no major issues at all. And servicing and maintenance is relatively cheap. The upgrade drug, however, is expensive. I also ran a Cerb for two years. No way would I entertain one as a daily/only car. Life would get very expensive, very quick. And it would annoy you. And make a sensational car less fabulous and more of a chore.
A TVR is way more more special than a 996 C2 or C4 but the 996 is a far better daily car. Buy from someone respected and enjoy it!!
So far then I'm steered towards the 996, and cerbera 4.5, as it`ll be my first performance motor might be sensible to go with a Merc, or the 996....
Intend to drive daily, and do long trips without fail, and with a many bad stories of TVR reliability issues, I think the Cerbera may not be a good choice, stick to German Engineering I guess

Having had the XFS as a daily it was very nice but not at all out sports like a Cerbera is. its length was an annoyance as a daily also to the extent it was like my RR Vogue but without the elevated position. I soon changed it for a RR Sport which was the much better daily and fuel consumption only slightly worse.Get the Cerb it will make you smile like no other but also prom you to show more OCD or interest in how its living

A cerbera is a special bestie in any guise.....first sports car?? Perhaps cut your teeth on something that is less likely to bite back!!
And as with ANY performance car there will be big bills and running costs.....
The Cerbera isn't an unreliable car at all!! If looked after properly......far more reliable than anything from Ferrari or Lamborghini!!!
O and certainly don't think the 4.2 the runt of the litter.....the power delivery in a 4.2 is simply savage and will be more than is sensibly usable on the road.......
O dear upset a Porsche owner ...... nothing personal but the 996 is even hated by Porsche fans.......no doubt the cheapest way into a 911... GT3 is one hell of a car though!! See I don't hate Porsche's........

Ha. I agree actually but you will find the tide is changing rebtbe 996 like it did the 964, 3.2's etc. The 996 is the ugly duckling now but my CSR Retro is a very special animal.
OP, I'd agree about the Ferrari comment above. Ran one alongside the Cerb and it was comically unreliable. Con rods. Lambdas. Battery. Window regulators....what a joke.
If you have another car to use, get a Cerb over a 996. Every day.

Every high performance car have high running costs......exceptions??? None!
For the older cars ( like mine ) they are 20 years old!! Things wear out.......
As to being unreliable....nonsense........if they haven't been maintenance correctly or abused sure .....what else would you expect! They also hate sitting around not being used.....
Engines are very robust......ajps are...and so are speed sixes if rebuilt and updated.
Clutch slaves can be a weak point.
Minor electrics niggles certainly.
Get one with history....a good chassis and we'll looked after and you'll be fine!!
Get it inspected!!

Because compared to my 911's, it was. Clutch went. Throttle cable. Battery died randomly. Clutch slave and master. Starter motor. Electrics had issues. Nothing major but the AA were out quite a bit over the years. I have had three TVR's. Cerbera definitely the most expensive to maintain with the most niggles. Hence why I personally would never daily one.

Curious. Is that the extent of your past cars in your profile. Not wishing to sound like a piss taker but if it is, any tvr as a daily is a hugely bad idea. Not only will the running costs exceed all of those cars put together, in the wet you may find yourself like this. nh92 said:

To be honest my current combo is one I couldn't be any happier with Evoque and Cerbera. I have the RR Evoque as my daily... does miles effortlessly, more than capable off road and in UK weather snap and is just about big enough to class as a serious family car although noticeably smaller than the bigger RRs however it did take my wife and (1yr old at the time) to France on a weeks holiday in good comfort and economically.See you`ve had a few...
Mixing a 4x4 with the Cerb is ideal... think of having a snowfall? My Jag was shocking and my 2nd car at the time was a Smart Roadster Brabus I was locked in for days Had I still had the 4x4 happy days. to my mind RRs are still the ultimate SUV
That said Audi Q series are good but a car like that has to be optioned up to give you what a 2008 RRS gives you as standard??? for example. and those options cost a lot.
haven't had a chance to check the F-Pace yet but to be honest the RR just do it for me.
I Hope that helps mate... remember it is just my opinion but i say test drive all 3 you mention and I think I know the combo you would feel better about
