Head Light Bulb Up Grade ??????

Has anyone upgraded their headlight bulbs, not looking for a complete head light conversion.

Has any one used/know of these??????

Sprint had an article in a couple of months ago with a bulb test. I'll see if I can dig it out...

There are lots of previous threads to search, but you could do a lot worse than fit the David Beer/Modwise upgrade which for about £70 gives you Phillips 50% brighter bulbs and the extra wiring and relays to give enough current to the lights. Made a huge difference to my lights, plenty of others have used them as well.

Nope, can't find it. Had a big tidy up recently, so now I can't find anything....
I'm sure someone will be along soon.
As far as I can remember the test was done on a standard car with 3 or 4 different types of bulbs, all claiming extra performance over normal bulbs. And a 100W set.
One of them performed much better than the rest, but I can't remember which.
So, useful post then.

Used them in my S3. No real difference TBH, maybe a little better. I then fitted some Japanese 100/110W Ice Platinum bulbs which looked but gave pants light. I use OSRAM Silver Stars in the Griff. The Blue type don't give as good illumination as the yellow though. Phillips Vision Plus are good aswell.

We upgraded the wiring using the Modwise kit which effectively runs a seperate feed to the other light boosting the output. Also upgraded to Osram Silverstar bulbs and it is much better. As you know we use the car daily and no real issues in the last 18 months.
Takes a couple of hours to do the kit and about 2 more hours to jack the car up, get the wheels off, take the inspection hatch off and put it all back again (2 minutes to change the bulbs).

Done the same; it's an improvement over standard.

Found it!
Tested on a '96 Chimp.

Standard 60/55W bulb- Crap.
100/80W Bulb - much, much better but risks burning wiring loom out (& is illegal)!
Phillips vision Plus 60/55- as good ad the higher wattage bulbs.
Phillips Blue Vision 60/55 - worse than standard bulbs.

Recommended: Phillips Vision Plus.

I used the Osram bulb as they did better in a test by Auto Express than the Philips equivalent. If you do a search on auto express I'm sure you'll find it - no time for me now and off to BNG at the weekend.

FlipFlop, I presume this kit is nothing more than a relay with feed from the battery, and source from the normal light loom?

If this is the case, then surely a 12v relay and a little wiring is all that's needed?

If you know what you are doing you don't need the kit, but its actually two relays (includes the driving lights), all the wires cut to the right length, crimped to the right connectors and some useful if slightly cryptic instructions. David now bundles it with four 50%+ bulbs so for me it was worth it to save the hassle and mistakes of assembling it myself. I can't believe he makes a lot of money out of it and it was delivered very quickly.

I was fine with wiring in the Taimar but not a clue with the Griff. For the cost of Davids kits it just isn't worth the potential of cocking it up.

I agree, I installed this kit last year. The wiring looks like it's been done by a pro. Then again David is a pro, the wiring looks nothing like the (ahum) original wiring. The kit gives loads more light, wel worth the investment.

I think that once the Griff is back I'll be putting the modwise kit on.It comes highly reccomended The lights on the Griff are pretty abysmal. The lights on my S3 were miles better, mind you I upgraded the whole unit on those.

At the beginning of this thread H4s were mentioned. The Silverstar H4 is a twin filament bulb which would be wrong for the Griff as it contains both dipped and main beam light. The H1 must be the right one. Can anyone confirm that as I would like to improve that lighting on my Griff without doing expensive headlamp mods?

It tells you in the Bible (not got with me) but the bulb should have main beam as it is when you flash the lights (I'm pretty sure anyways). The side light is a seperate bulb.
Do a search for H1 or H4 as it has been covered b4.

I found you on a thread in Jan 04 saying you had bought Osram Silverstars H1, anyway I will check bible tonight.
