Pre-cat brake upgrade?
Discussion
I'm sure the questions have been asked before but I've failed to find them in 'Search'.
1. Will the Griff 500 brakes fit inside the pre-cat Amil Gotti wheels (front and rear)?
2. Are the calipers to fit the larger discs the same as the pre-cat ones, I.e. is just a spacer used to position the caliper further away from the hub centre?
Any help would be great - many thanks
Chad

1. Yes, but why not look at 283 upgrade with 887/888 calipers? Also upgrade the rears to 500 spec.1. Will the Griff 500 brakes fit inside the pre-cat Amil Gotti wheels (front and rear)?

2.Think the pistons are slightly smaller on the precat calipers, using the correct caliper carrier is better than adding a bracket. Hence the 283 upgrade.

Regarding the 283mm disk and 887/888 caliper upgrade, I hadn't considered this as I thought it wouldn't fit inside the standard pre-cat wheel - am I wrong? If I am can you point me in the right direction for more info?
Thanks again

Pretty sure this mod fits under 15" as quite a few have done it now.
Mine are under 16" with lots to spare.
The 887/888 ford caliper is off the Granada Cosworth and some people are also reporting that the Mondeo can have the same calipers.

Thanks Antony, the 283mm disks and calipers from the Sierra Cosworth are favourite at the moment, especially as the calipers look as though they have opposing pistons instead of the sliding arrangement which never seem to work evenly.
One last question before I bore you all to death, do I need the Cosworth caliper carriers as well or will the Griff 500 ones do?
Cheers.

The sierra cosworth calipers you req are not the later opposed piston type, the ones you need are the earlier sliding caliper like the ones fitted to the Griff, just larger so a bigger disc can be fitted also, hence a bigger swept area and greater braking force..... your mounting holes i think will also need drilling out to the larger bolt size of the cosworth caliper,as yours is an early car,500's dont need to do this as they are already the right size,a couple of mm,also some 2mm washers will be req to centralize the caliper over the disc..... its a popular upgrade, and many have carried it out with great success.....im trying to find out if focus st170 brakes will fit as these are 300mm in size...... in for a penny and all that.
Don't know if this will be any use, but something to think about Chad Speed.
If you have a look on Ballistic Bananas profile blog for his Griff 500 he upgraded his front brake discs and pads to EBC stuff and wrote it up on 3rd July 2006.
I now have that exact kit on my precat - I bought it all off him - calipers, discs and pads - after he went even bigger (just don't look at the comparison on 30th May 2007)
It was all a straight swap for my original stuff without extra spacers and fits under my 15" Estorils. Its a massive improvement and is enough to lock the front end under really heavy braking but gives great feedback, unlike the originals which seemed like an emergency stop was a wing and a prayer job.
I didn't touch the rear end and have no balance problems.
Food for thought perhaps?

Let me get this right, did the 500 caliper and 260mm disk bolt straight on to the pre-cat upright without any other parts? If you have a look on Ballistic Bananas profile blog for his Griff 500 he upgraded his front brake discs and pads to EBC stuff and wrote it up on 3rd July 2006.

Actually, now I think about it they did come with little spacer washers. But they were basically little washers of aluminium about 3 or 4mm thick.
But, when I lost a bolt and spacer on a test run after having the brakes apart I had to put a couple of washers to replace the lost spacer. I was concerned so asked a question about it on here and was told it was perfectly acceptable to use normal washers.
I asked a question about it on here, might be able to search for it, but I'm leaving for a hoon to the Peak District in the Mrs S2000.
Well, she thinks we're off for lunch with her parents. I'm thinking its a hoon and I'm driving
